What's a spares or repair storm worth?

Hi guys, not been around lately work and life has been getting on the way. Had a fair few miles on the bike and have noticed its using a fair amount of oil. Probably rings or stem seals but as I was planning on trading it in, in the spring and with insurance renewal looming I think I'd rather just sell the bike now and see if anyone fancies a winter project.

But what is an average condition storm worth with an engine problem?

using oil or losing oil...... could just be a little leak somewhere.

if its otherwise tidy you should be looking 700 to a grand id say

No signs of a leak unfortunately, fairly confident its rings, smokes when under load. Well that's a fair amount more than would accept for it so may stick in the classifieds.

Just out of interest how much am I looking at to have the rings done?

chances are the front cyl is out of spec... they do slap a bit.
you'd be looking at 300+ i reckon.
you could get another engine for that... or less.
have a look for a decent motor with a wrecked front head, swap the heads over off yours and then break your engine on ebay to recoup most of the cost.

All the motors I've seen are 500 plus? If I could get one cheaper I'd consider the change, but I'm planing on something new for the spring so would prefer to sell it now to someone willing to do the work or break it themselves.

Blimey if that's what that's going for, mine could be worth more than I thought, mine runs fine if you keep the oil topped up and all the fairings would be great with a weekends work

Am I being stupid, but cant you just keep topping the oil up? mine has been using about a litre of oil every 2 thousand miles since I've had it. I thought this was relatively normal for these bikes.

It's a bit more than that unfortunately but I'm going to either sell or trade it in next spring anyway and I've got my insurance renewal coming so I might as well cut loses.

But yes if someone was willing to do that then it'll be a very cheap bike

you might get more money if you break it and sell individual parts, if you can be arsed that is....

That's the thing I haven't got the inclination for that if I'm stripping it I might as well do the engine swap..... I'll stick an advert up tomorrow.

you could always drop tony.mon a personal message, from time to time money and time permitting he likes to buy bikes that need a bit of mechanical work doing to them, it's worth a try, having said that he might have already seen this thread, you never know.....
