much needed repairs!

Post by the stig »

hi fellow stormers,
i swapped my belloved zx9r for a firestorm about 4 weeks ago, after owning it for just over a year,
when i rode the storm i thought it rode well but looked a nail,it hadnt been loved at all,and when getting used to it i opened her up,
much to my dissapointment it had the power of a fart top end! it would only rev to 6000rpm!
the front suspension felt like it was full of sponge and the brakes were poo,
i wasnt a very happy bunny!
untill now.........

ive just had the cam timing done,
the carbs set up,
the forks re sealed and new oil,(old oil smelt stagnant!)
new brake pads front and rear,
new brake fluid front and rear,
new clutch fluid/oil,
and the result..........

OMG!! she rides like a completely different bike, the power delivery is faultlessly smooth, the power it unleashes is very grin enducing!! it pulls like a train! :D
the brakes feel very possitive and too are very smooth
and the suspension is very forgiving, some of our roads are not in the best condition!! :(
im now not so regretfull of swapping the 9 for the storm, happy days
safe riding stormers

result then!!!

you'd be surprised how many owners and so called mechanics get the cam timing wrong... either by guessing or following the very misleading haynes manual.
tony and myself met a few owners with the same thing at the bulldog recently.
have a browse here for the common mods... i'd expect the next thing, after riding a zx9 is to get the handling right.
i can say with all honestly that after tweaking mine, it handles better than my sp, so they do have the potential and it doesnt cost the earth to get right.

good luck :)
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
