What leathers?
ok, I know you get what you pay for, but I might be getting a bonus and want to ditch the textiles for leathers and given it's a big buy I want to get the best value etc.
I'm not talking Scott, Dainese or Alpinestars end of the market, more a two piece for around £350-£450
1. What brand does anyone have that is not cheap crap off ebay but does the job and lasts - RST, Revit, HeinG, Spada, Richa etc etc
2. Are the end of season deals at BSB meets etc worth looking at - or is it mostly unbranded cheap stuff???
cheers all

What leathers?
Got my 1 piece bks from j&s for 400 a few weeks back. They are quite good value for a shop (as opposed to the Internet)

Re: What leathers?
I still regularly wear an Ashman leather jacket from over a decade ago - while the the leather looks nicley worn & faded the seams and zips are just as good as the day I bought it- Don't know if they still make em but can heartily recommend the make.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: What leathers?
I've got the same Hein Gericke 1 piece suit from 10yrs back, (And I still fit in it, just) The zip has been replaced recently but the quality and weight of the leather is good. It'd be worth a look there too.
But, I'd go and try lots of different makes on, and buy what seems to fit you best and that you think is good enough quality. No point rushing into it and getting something that might 'just do' when you can take while over getting the right thing.

Re: What leathers?
IXS (J&S's top line brand) make brilliant quality kit, RST are very good and you may find some alpine stars kit for your budget too. The Hein Gericke kit is good though a little bland. And surprisingly expensive for some of the stuff.

Re: What leathers?
Further to my original post (I was typing on tapatalk and couldnt be bothered to type a lot)
J&S in Doncaster do cheap IXS suits. Most were old line suits though so colour schemes looked a little dated, but prices started at £150 for a 1 or 2 piece.
There were also Frank Thomas ones starting at about £250 and these were available in blue/black + red/black or all black.
Then there were the BKS ones which were 'factory seconds' reduced from £650 or something to £400. They had little marks on them which looked like little ink stains where some of the black dye they put in the leather ran into the white bit. Some were pretty obvious, and some, like the one I bought were very very minor. Mine was a slightly darker patch on each knee, but unless someone points it out, you cant notice it.
Other than that, there are always the RST fusion suits on line which go for £300-350 ish. Only problem is you cant try one on. RST is a good brand and the fusion suits look nice in a good range of colours.
I went to J&S to try one on and get my size and then order one online, but while I was there found the one I bought and liked it and it was a good price
I have never personally liked Hein Gericke as they are overpriced and too plain in my opinion. I have also never fancied Alpine Stars or Dainese etc as although they look nice, they are really expensive and I always wonder how much of that cash is paying for the brand. They are like the Mini of the car world....where you are in effect buying the equivalent of a cheap small car with a low spec for twice the price, just because it has the mini badge.

Re: What leathers?
Although I have not had to test them out, I am happy with my Wolf leathers, I got them from George White, they were last years colours so got the two pieces for £325!
Another make I looked at was arc-on seemed very reasonable, all the users I have met seemed happy with them, one mentioned made to measure at no extra cost and choice of colours

HG still have their 20% off. I got an RST two piece for about 240 IIRc. Nice suit.
No bike (yet).

I've had frank thomas kit in the past and it's been crap, but the power ranger one piece I have now is their FT range and it's a decent bit of kit. I can also attest to it's protectiveness. Good suit for £240.

What leathers?
I've got 2 sets of identical Gericke PSX2 leathers (I've been lucky on eBay) - really comfy, good quality stuff.
I had a big off in my old ones - no tears or rips - or skin damage, despite breaking many bits!
I have added some trimmings to mine:

Each to their own mate...
As for Minis...I didnt know you had one of those, but you're quite tall, do you fit in it alright?

Re: What leathers?
no it's not like mr bean before you ask.
the new mini has lots of room for the driver [but no one can sit behind me], and the CooperS has 185hp so its the only car I ever owned that made me want to just drive for no reason, other than to have fun.....same as a bike.......well, that is my excuse

Re: What leathers?
Bah, the way I see it, I had an MR2 import with all sorts done to it...bigger turbo, dump valve, intercooler, boost controller etc etc and was about 280-300 hp. Was nice to drive at the time, but now I have a bike, I would never go back to driving a car for pleasure.AMCQ46 wrote:no it's not like mr bean before you ask.

Being stuck behind a line of slow fcuking retards who havent a clue what they are doing on the road is the most frustrating thing in the world for me, made even worse when im driving something too wide to overtake safely with even though it has all the power in the world
