Speedo U/S

Post by Furrybiker »

Rode off yesterday and no speedo, as this is not the bike to ride without one I went straight to my tame mechanic.

After checking the wiring he tells me there is power everywhere it should be, the odometer shows but does not count.

The scary news is that he thinks it is the sensor and that is £140 or it could be the speedo itself........ :confused

Any ideas gentlemen??

More than likely the Speedo sensor

They pop up now & again on ebay second-hand for a lot less than £140!

Found one for £35 delivered, from a breakers, my tame mechanic is getting cold feet, now wants me to take it to a main dealer as he cant find the fault!

Rang dealer, they seem to just want to put bits on till it works. FFS

Now waiting for the post..........

Hopefully that'll fix it! Did your speedo stop working suddenly or did it stop working intermittently? both times, in 55,000 miles mine gradually brokedown, sometimes working - sometimes not, till it became tricky tracking the odometer and when to fill up before reserve.

It was working, parked bike for a couple of weeks, took it out for a spin, no speedo. Rode for about 30 miles hoping it was "stuck" but nothing.

Sensor arrived from breakers this morning, took it to mechanic and we both agreed it looked a bit tatty but with nothing to lose on it went....

RESULT No.1 It works!!

RESULT No.2 Mechanic was so amazed he said "Have it as a freebie"! even after the time they spent trying to trace the fault

Good result on both

one comment is that very soon "mechanics" will have to realise that the Internet user groups know more about a specific bike / car than they do, not sure if their pride will ever allow it to happen, but how many time have we seen it now?

So if you take your bike to a mechanic you should believe what is said on here stronger than his general opinion, the collective knowledge about the firestorm on here is greater than any mechanic can ever dream to have

Absolutely its like going to your GP he knows about all sorts of bikes (illnesses) in general but not very specific things.

I should have also pointed out that some of the comments on the forum are complete and utter baldrocks :D but when it comes to the technical side this is the gospel
