CCT comparison... old and new.

Post by Opel »

I was just browsing ebay and came across an auction for a (pair of... I think) new Honda CCTs. The photo indicates that the ‘plunger’ extends only a small distance, when compared to the ones I recently removed.
I can only assume that the ones on ebay are correct and perhaps mine had been ‘stopper moded’ at some time. The images below should indicate the difference for anyone remotely interested!

I can only conclude that I've too much time on my hands today... and that I should perhaps get a proper job. :shifty:

yes as Tattoo said, the new parts come wound in and locked..................and this can be a bit of a worry as that stores the spring in its highest stress condition, so not the best way to assure a long life

you can only tell if your old ones had a stopper if you cant wind the plunger all the way back in

Thanks for that…
I could never quite get my head around the stopper mod, and now when I have the relevant part in front of me to investigate, I’ve no need, and therefore it will always remain a mystery!

Incidentally, if anyone wants my well used OEM tensioners, you can have them for the cost of P&P. One of them was dealer fitted when the original failed in 2006 (before my ownership)…
Anyway the offer’s there if anyone is interested.
:D

Edit... 7.9.11 OLD CCT'S HAVE GONE TO A NEW HOME ALREADY...

Thanks Opel.

I need to be doing the CCT mod to the bike, thats a given, but have not decided to do the stopper mod or fit manual adjusters. Having your old units will let me see how it all works (we like to know how things work.... :Smash Computer: ) and possibly see how things could be made better.

I owe you a pint if we ever meet to cover the postage you would not take :Beer1:

Regards

i dont advise the stopper mod, it will save your engine but will not stop the cct failing, you will still have the hassle to set the timing up and take the bike to pieces to fit new ccts, I have done the job once dont fancy doing again and again, (well not on my bike) tony does a good party trick, fitting ccts with a blind fold on, its bollody amazing.
