Oil & Tyres

Post by veefour »

Hi folks, as a new Storm owner could i ask which engine oil you prefer, the previous owner said he used normal 10/40 grade. In my trusty old VFR i use Castrol GPS 10/40 Semi Synthetic, so would it be OK to top up the Storm with this then change to Semi Synth. at the next oil change. ( Or keep to the normal oil ).
Also the bike has Pirelli Corsa Diablo Rosso tyres fitted, what are these like for longevity baring in mind i am a more 'ahem mature rider who won't be sliding or spinning them up.

Yes, you can top up with semi, and the bike will run well on that.
Some folks find that fully synth allows the clutch to slip, and f course don't use car oil.

Tyres- Yes, they work well, had a set on a bike I sold recently and they impressed me.

Cheers,
Tony

Unlike cars, a large proportion of bikes have 'wet' clutches, therefore the various additives in car oil can (and do) cause bike clutches to slip. (By mistake I've got the t-shirt on that one)

I tend to use the cheapest branded semi synthetic that I can find... The storms engine cannot ever be considered hi-tech or high revving, but it could (arguably) be described as being 'agricultural', however, I perhaps wouldn't go so far as using 'caterpillar' oil.

no problem using cheap oil as long as it doesnt have anti wear additives in it & you change it often enough.
i do mine every 4-5k... if i don't change it the clutch lets me know it's ready for doing - starts to slip a bit at 7000rpm when the oil is dirty.
i do the oil filter every other change.

the tyres should be fine m8 as long as theyre not squared off.
protect your investment when replacing them... no sense buying cheap tyres then binning the bike.
(says he who pays £70 a pair lol)
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Everybody as their favorite oil, mine is Motul 7100 4T 10W60,but I prefer 10w 60 rather than 10w 40 as I believe it suits the big twin better than, it’s 100% synthetic based on Ester-Technology, this specific viscosity grade compensates for fuel dilution and reduces oil consumption it is also the grade required by KTM, APRILIA, HUSQVARNA, MOTO GUZZI, in their large capacity engines even MV AGUSTA recommend it, IMHO it's the best oil for a Storm.
I've now gone all European and bought a KTM Superduke GT and Aprilia RSV1000R :D ,
Storm is now gone  .
