Bike repair suggstions
Bike repair suggstions
Hi All,
Im brand new to the forum, i have been running a 1997 yellow storm and need a few bits done and im looking for mechanic recomendations. The bike runs well and ive just changed all the normal service items but i have noisey tappets and 2nd gear keeps jumping out. I live in camberley in surrey and called a few local dealers and just to get the gear issue looked at labour was approx £400 - £500 without parts.
I really like the bike but cant really afford to spend that at the moment.
Im going to have a good look around the forum as it does look really good.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Lee

My geography isnt brilliant down 'saaarf' but you cant be that far from Tony Mon.
Pm him and see if he will do it. I think he used to do work on them and at very reasonable rates. At least that way you know you have an expert with the VTR on the case.

Hey Lee - if my experience is anything to go by then ask away, read away and you'll be itching to do everything yourself, confident those on here will advise on everything and anything.

Hi!
I have both spares and capacity, but you'll need to take your own engine out, fella, as I'm full up with the fun and games that come with that activity.....
But get me an engine and I'll happily build you a working one.
Cost will be about £150 all in, plus any parts not already mentioned assuming that worn bits are found on stripdown.
But this sounds like gear selector forks, possibly also 2nd gears being changed. These parts would be included at that price, with replacement known good 2nd hand parts from a spare engine.
I'm in Sevenoaks, near J3 M35.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks to all for the offer of help, things went horribly wrong 2 days ago, coming home from work doing around 50 and the tappets got very very loud then lost power and started to cut out, then really bad back firing and i stopped. It starts but sounds like running on 1 cylinder and the valves sound like they are coming through the tank.
I have been looking at another engine as this would solve the 2nd gear problem as well. Not sure what the bikes worh, i paid £500 i have new MOT and tax and tyres, it has been running perfect and have no other issues. What do i do, i have only taken out engines on moto x bikes around 25 years ago so not confident in doing myself. I recently did the oil, filter, plugs and air filter as well. Its sitting in the garden as im using as friends KTM super moto but i do miss the storm.
Looked on ebay for another engine but not sure what i would be getting and looks around 500ish plus any other parts needed.
Thanks for any ideas.

Sounds like a CCT imploded rather than tappets - What kind of CCTs are fitted? You'll be in very good hands with Tony.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

PM'd.
But yes, CCT, plus gearbox.
So maybe not worth repairing.....
