HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Re: new battery needed, advise please.....
Early and late storms have different size and rated batteries though later ones can be shoehorned into earlier models. A search for battery related threads should steer you to an answer.

i bought a motobatt MBTX12U it replaces the YTX12BS that was fitted to my storm...it has 20% higher cranking amps, maintenance free,leak-proof,vibration resistant and has 4 terminals...i did however have to remove the front flap off the battery box as it's a really tight fit with it fitted...www.motobatt.com....
Re: new battery needed, advise please.....
A few years back, I replaced the original YTX12-BS (or YTZ-12) with a YT12A-BS (same as found in the TL1000), a battery that has slightly less CCA, is slightly shorter (@ 1"), and more importantly, weighs just shy of 2 lbs less (6.3 vs 8.1). I ran it for two years without any problem (it started up my bike in our cold Canadian springs and falls). As an added onus, it costs less too.
More recnetly , my quest for weight loss led me to pick up a Li ion battery (weighs @ 2lbs). It`s a bit more expensive but is said to last a lot longer. The only downside is that it struggles a bit in colder temps, at least until it warms up a bit (which it does when cranking the bike over). I am now using a 12-cell unit (6.9 Ah) and am quite happy.
cheers

marty...it will fit with the front flap fitted it's just very tight to remove once in there and the extra terminals come in handy for the charger/optimate/satnav wiring too...
