Powdercoat or Paint. Opinions please

Post by Flatline »

So the next phase of the 750ss project is to get the tank sorted

Should I go for powdercoat, about £30 and get the seat etc unit painted to match?

Or do I get both painted?

Does that inc blasting the tank back to bare metal?

I'd be inclined to paint and lacquer the tank as it'll be easier to touch up in the future. Also paint can be applied to match, mudguard, tail plastics and other components.

:wtf: Just been quoted £300 to spray tank :wtf:

What do you consider a reasonable price?

At £40 for powdercoating (that included back to bare metal) I can get it done again if I chip it

if the tank has a dent in it and has been filled as some do from new .
then paint it
if not use the power coat but the gloss finish is not as good as lacquer
if you have it painted do all the prep work your self and will bring the cost down buy 3/4
i had a quote to get my old cbr600 sprayed black for £300 if i did the prep myself

That's crazy = A decent 2nd hand tank is £200! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUCATI-900SS- ... 037wt_1079 Someone here was quoted to have his storm and bits n bobs painted (one colour nothing too fancy a £1000 so your price for a tank doesn't seem to far of the high mark). Have you searched around a few auto respraryers and thought about doing the prep on the tank yourself (bottle of paint-stripper to get it back to bare metal).

If you go for PC the tank then don't expect to get a super glossy lacquered type finish, and for the PC color to match what the rest of the bike. As a comparison a pair of wheels costs to PC approx £60-£80 how much do your PCers charge?

£50 for a pair of wheels powdercoated

I take your point about the lack of a deep gloss though

I am waiting for some more quotes but I thought I would get a feel for the price from you guys

Thanks for info
