Anything cheap to buy, run, insure and maintain. If it has two wheels you can have a laugh on it (with the possible exception of a CZ/Jawa, no even they can be a laugh).
Just do some research on bikes that self destruct when newish let alone after a few unmaintained winters.

95-98 CBR600 (F-S to F-W) Used to have one a few years ago and will do absolutely anything that you want it too. Good enough for distance work, good on fuel and properly set up they handle like they are on rails. Good build quality and reliability. Plenty out there so finding a cheap good one should be no problem

Would have to be a Honda. How about 600 Revere, Transalp or Africa Twin ?

XR400 for the snowy days. And a C90 after every budget!

second bike

Post by rob's red storm »

I had a vt500 which has gone to bike heaven, so now have only the BMW 1100gs for winter work. Damn heavy when slow riding but has the plus points of great stability and that if I drop it it's going to look exactly the same as it does now! Really need to get a lighter, more "crash-able" bike for when the snow hits. No way in hell I'll be able to pick the gs up in icy conditions, nearly shat myself picking it up off of grass!!!! Thinking of getting the Bantam up and running, that would do the trick...

i'll be using my rev n rip scooter over winter, all being well.
theres not really any ally on it to rot, apart from the casings..
it's good for 60mph when it gets going and costs fek all to run - should be good fun in the snow lol. :D
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Benny, trouble is you painted it white, so you may struggle to find it in the snow

I am a soft, lazy b8stard and use 4 wheels in the winter.........but I do ride trials all winter so I am sure that stops me being a fair weather biker :shh:

If I had to ride in the winter, then a big old single would be the choice, not a new supermoto, but someting with a bit softer engine.....an old Honda Dominator or something like that.

BUT........when I look at the original question, it didnt ask what 2nd bike to use as a winter hack, it said what 2nd bike would we want.........so that is a whole different bag of ideas!

I still want a Suzuki Katana 1000 [not the 1100!], with USD front end and Ohlins on the back.
