It gets unreliable once you get over 130bhp, so that's why the racers and drag bikes use the additional pivot plates.
I can cope with most things when riding, but having the back end of the bike break off, and all the engine oil joining in isn't my idea of fun.
But before anyone panics, there's no chance of this happening to a standard one, or one with cans and carb work, you'll be well under the 130 limit, and even then they'll last quite a while before fatigue sets in to the gearbox/ SA pivot casting.
Mine has been abused on the drag strip with just shy of 120 bhp for a few years, as well as street use, no signs of any problems, but as I get more power this winter it might start to concern me a bit.
