bellow and welcome
and do your r/r as that is my thinking as to why it would not start after a long run
have you been on a long run since you cleaned up the starter bolt ?

I would also recommend checking that you have the revised reg / rectifier on there as that could also lead to battery problems had mine burn out years ago. Needs to be the finned type. Welcome to the Forum

Re: just bought a shiney red noisy one
A bit of grease under the starter motor rubber boot every couple of months is a good idea, it keeps the crud coming off the front wheel from rotting the bolt.
Once corrosion starts, the current going through that joint very quickly burns through the bolt if it becomes loose.
That's a lot of amps, and if the connection loosens, it results in an increase in resistance, and that make heat- lots of heat....
Good news is that although you can't buy the bolt as a separate part, it's easy to make one and fit it. Just remember the order of the insulating washers, that bolt shouldn't be able to touch the casing at all.
If you need more insulating washers Halfords do a few for pennies.
And welcome!

CCT Cam Chain Tensioner Identification
Does it look like this manual (GOOD)jason2106 wrote:ps what easyest way to check if cct's have been done???

or this

OEM automatic (BAD)

or this hybrid manual (GOOD)
Also if your Regulator/Rectifier is an early unfinned one prone to failure, junk it for a later finned one / mosfet version ASAP
And also check your rear end shock linkage bearings and grease em up / replace as necessary as these are prone to corrosion (see Workshop section)

Nope, you're going to have to read the "how to" in general test area.
They need to be hosted, Photobucket or similar.
