Re: VTR Issues
Thanks for that, just been thought it today and it's all ben done, so I guess its a matter of riding it and getting used the the fearce engine breaking...
Re: VTR Issues
Yes there are a few things to be very worried about.
Being yellow or blue for starters!
After that make sure you get a set of manual CCT's fitted ASAP if not already done.
Check the Reg/Rec to see if it has a finned version.
Look at the connection to the starter under the rubber boot, they get all the crap from the front wheel & corrode, lashings of grease help.
Check the suspension linkages, bearings seize & need a good greasing depending on age, mileage & previous owners this may never have been done.
These problems are all easily* rectified, have a read through the workshop section to find out more.
* Obviously a full respray may not be classed as easy, but will help enormously with your self esteem if you are not riding around on a yellow or blue bike. Try RED it comes highly recommended as do a nice set of Bazza converted CCT's, PM him for more info.

Re: VTR Issues
Hi, its a 97 Red bike, all totally standard.
No idea what a cct is, but I'll look at the started connection and the swing arm bearings, and the reg req to see if it's finned, though I guess if it's held together this long all should be ok
Cheers

Re: VTR Issues
Hi thanks for that,
So whats the deal with these CCT's, just a matter of getting a couple of new ones from Honda?

Re: VTR Issues
Nope.
The design of the engine means that if the spring inside fails, (which they have a habit of doing- usually the front one) the cam chain is allowed to become so slack that it can ride up over the teeth on the cam sprocket.
This disturbs the cam timing, and the piston gives the valves a little kiss, bending them.
Usually rebuildable, costs about £150 plus labour.
You need to do this mod fairly quickly......
Not if, but when.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: VTR Issues
Hi, I've had a quick search on the site and can see that there are some manual ones, is this correct, has anyone done an installation guide for this, alot of other formums do a step by step for stuff like this.
KLR chain tensioner
XR650 Mods
How to fit a leccy start to your Gold Star
ect, etc
Maybe helpful to show a step by step here
