Tony,
I think I kind of figured out ratchet type design but based on princi[;e pof rotating ratchet linked to your idea...with next salary I will buy CCT to work with, but basically there is 2 variants:
1. Ratchet piece of ratchet screwdriver + bit that usually goes into screw goes into rod

Image

2.Or: "external" rotating ratchet right on top of CCT...but that one easier to draw than to explain...
Only problem is limited set of tools I have - libing as expat in Belgium can not really setup workshop in rented house
I will try to get you draft drawings on weekend - have a look, may be you will find it uuseful...

sounds good to me..the more people get involved the better.one of us will surely come up with a foolproof design somewhen..pity honda havent  but then again they wouldnt all the time theyre selling ccts by the bucket load and their dealers charging 500-1500 for engine rebuilds after they go boom!!...i see a law suit appearing in the future..maybe its the only way to get them to listen and do something..but it'll probably take a life to do it,looking forward to seeing drawings blue..cheers.

Could always arrange an en-mass ride out to their UK HQ get it noticed by the corporate bods, get some publicity and cause a general nuiscence.

20 or so bikes parked up outside their offices with a large box of broken bits would look pretty bad if you could get it in the press.

I dont think Honda would be in the mood to listen to us after having their noses rubbed in it by Mr Rossi. I'm sure they've locked the doors and are having a good old sulk.

If we did send a party down to Honda HQ, what would be the chances of everybody getting there without engins blowing up en-route or running out of fuel

I am looking for :

1.measure between CCT fixation bolts
2. If you happen to know - otherwise only way to find out is to see CCT itself :) what is diameter of CCT internal part that actually goes into engine?
3. Same as above - do you happen to know CCT shortes/longest lenght?

I know I am asking too much - but had to give it a shot :) may be ZX11 cct will be what we looking for....as it is ratchet type.

No varadero's that ive heard of have had any trouble with ccts going pop.
i saw one today and the outer body of the cct is exactly the same as the ones on the vtr...maybe theyre internally different?....if i find out i will post here..in the mean time ill just put up with my modded ones..cheers.

update

Post by tony.wilde1 »

received this email from dave silver spares..not conclusive but interesting..since no varaderos have had any cct probs!

Hello

Thank you for your e-mail.

The 2 tensioners do appear to be very similar, although they do have different Honda part numbers.

Regards
Steve H

Thank You

Tony
you bet me on that one, I had just emailed David silver about spares for an XL100 and was just about to do as you obviously had done.
All this cct stuff is putting me off going out, 26,000 at moment and still on the originals.
Are there no government departments that we could contact ie DOT, would they not be interested in the regular failure of these components being that this could pose a serious threat to the rider and other motorists.

well mate...couldnt really find anything out...except..the varadero has single valve springs and the vtr has double.hence less strain on the valve train, hence no cct failure.also the varadero has a more mild grind on th ecam for low end and midrange torque.as far as i know the varadero ccts are the same.they just get an easier time....im still riding around on my modded ones until honda decide to really update them..if they do well..we can relax..if not...back to the sheds /workshops for us then!!cheers.
