Worrying accident statistics
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15975720
I put in my postcode and clicked on a few of the accidents around where I live, and I would say 3/4 of them involve motorbikes and most are fatal. I looked around the area I work and it is repeated there too.
Worrying.

im up that way a fair bit and the traffic is shocking at peak times.
id bet a high % of the bike accidents are while fitering, cars pulling Ueys etc, the usual rush hour stuff...?

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Thanks for that Ziggy !!
Seems that Sunday afternoon is the most dangerous time, between 12 and 6, but there again i've been doing this bike thing for 39 years, and its always been that way, trouble is 99% of the time its the other tw@t, only one way, treat em all as Richard@ds.

Re: Worrying accident statistics
A chap on another forum looked at the original data, and it seems 86% of the bike accidents were scooters, however the over 30's in a group in a rural area on sunny sundays are heavily represented in the remainder...
In addition the under 25's with big bikes dont look too good, although not much of a surprise there!

Re: Worrying accident statistics
Well, as depressing as it is that there were a lot in my area, my point was that it is repeated all over the country. Wherever you look on that map, most of the accidents are involving bikes, and most of those the biker dies.
Yes, most people probably already know, or assume that this is the case, but seeing the cold hard facts is quite scary.
One of the ones close to me was a bit odd....
Accident involving 1 bike
Driver aged 18 died
Passenger aged 14 died
Passenger aged 16 seriously injured
Now what's the betting that they weren't wearing helmets, weren't insured, and quite possibly didn't even own he bike they were on???

Re: Worrying accident statistics
yeh a lot of the stats are probably also showing off road accidents...
ive seen your riding m8 & apart from your minor fail last year there;s nothing lacking skillwise on your part but obviously you cant always account for the stupidity & negligence of other road users.
there was a lad took off today at bradley fold not far from yours
dunno if he was badly hurt like...
