little problem

Post by Phimosis »

I have changed my plugs and given the rear cylinder cc adjuster a quarter turn to stop the ticketty ticketty ding dong of the cc, sounds all nice and that......now when the things all warm on tickover the tickover is normal (sorry this is hard to explain) there is another bang through both rear pipes which isnt part of the tickover normality like a .......dudda dudda dudda pop dudda dudda dudda pop.........any ideas?

on teh CCT, a 1/4 turn is a lot, it is better to be loose than too tight..........and make sure you loctite teh screw, not just teh locknut, they have been known to come loose with vibration.

other noises, well thats a bit tough to diagnose from a typed description, but you have to check all the things you disturbed to do the plugs.

the vac take off hoses for the front & rear cyl, is the plug in correctly, any bolts not tightened etc

I didnt take the tank off to do the plugs so didnt need to shift any pipes etc, and when I say 1/4 turn more like 1/8, when I removed the front plug the plug was slightly loose and the thread oiled, the bike fires up fine now and evetyhing is fine, the bike runs real strong again as it always does after a plug change, just the pop every 3 or four thraps

Is the pop like a mini-backfire? Sort of a combination of the tank-fart these are prone to and a proper backfire? I'm asking as mine makes the same noise! (If I say it in my head.. :biggrin )

...but then again I that mine is due to a small air leak at the link pipes.

Rather than properly fix it, I can make it better by removing the baffles - less restriction so the gases flow straight out the back, resulting in a nice dudda dudda dudda dudda dudda dudda (chorus x10) :D

Yes exactly like a mini backfire inbetween "duddas!" I had a leak at the link pipes and cant seal them properly but it never made this noise when it ticked over like this, when the throttle is opened it isnt noticeable maybe cos it aint doing it, i think I will ignore it or may take the pipes off and refit...........
