headlight bulb question?

Post by Stormtrooper »

I have just fitted a 130/90 headlight bulb....by f**l its bright..cars just move over out of the way...but there maybe a downside as.. a guy at work tells me this is to high amps.. and will burn out my plug or drain the battery or may melt the inside of the headlight, basically is the guy talking rot or should i be worried...so has anyone fitted this size of bulb met with any of these type of probs? or any technical type dudes input (del)would be helpfull..

I've fitted 100/80w on a few storms and done over, err 100k with em in but not sure as I would risk 130/90w as you looking at double the current on all the wiring and switchgear plus the heat on the headlamp.

on the upside your reg/rec won't get too hot but your headlamp lens might.

That does seem pretty extreme to me. The wires might end up a little crispy.

On high beam your pulling 10.8 amps. Check the manual, see if it tells you what the alternator can supply and what the plugs can handle. If you take a look in an electrical catalogue they normally have a list saying what gauge wire will handle what current.

AT least you wont need heated grips this winter. you've a nice little electric fire built into the nose cone

I've got the 100/80 as well. The lens even heats a bit with that in it, can't imagine what the 130 is like!! Must be like a searchlight!

I cooked the pigtail for the headlight on my CBR600 with one of the 80/100's while running around with the brights on. Once I replaced the pigtail, everything worked fine.
You know the Austin Powers movies? I have always wanted to date someone like Allota Fagina... but I always seem to date her sister Sandy.
