ratchet CCT design

Post by bluesman »

well, I kind of did design for fail-proofing stock CCT with ratchet etc.
Does anybody have access to machining tools? I'd pay for making test example....here is scetch drawing, still need to get measurements whebn I'll get stock CCT for testing this design from reseller....

ratchet CCT design / anyone have 100.K miles on their shawk

Post by caffeineracer »

New lister Caffeineracer here in Los Angeles, California, USA

Looks like a good design you've got.

Did you know about the APE manual adjusters?
http://www.aperaceparts.com/
I've had them on for around 50.k and never had to readjust them.
No worries of jumping cam timing.

Does anyone on this list have over 100.K on their shawk?

Thanks,

Jeffers

yes

Sure, I know about APEs and also here several people kind of intuitively came to some other cheap and effective combined solution all at once, but: I wanted to work out something wich will be fully automatic - probably because I am mechanical engineer by education and have t spend all my life in completely different area :D but I do love mechanics

I am surprised to hear you did not have to readjust them, and I must admit that 100 k very impressive :o
Mine certainly not even 50k, but then I just bought Storm several motns ago after selling Hornet...

CCT

Post by W@zzA »

I'm thinking of getting a Varedero CCT to see what Honda have done to solve the problem and see if they can be modified to fit the VTR.
Or if my other post concludes that its just fronts that go and it points to oil starvation was gonna try a drip feed from the valve gear to lubricate it :!:

varadero

Post by tony.wilde1 »

hmmm..could work mate..but the varadero only has single valve springs and a milder grind on the cams..hence the valve train gets an easier time...hence no cct failure....i think!!!only what ive read on the varadero site.i had a look at one at boxhill and the cct body is identical...cant get any other info at the moment...good luck.

I checked it

Post by bluesman »

We checked Varadero CCT on fiches at dealer - same. Basically: all Honda CCTs seem to be came except some on on dirt bikes-thumpers.
I am going to do that mod with bolt-in until somebody will agree to machine full-scale ratchet design posted above for me.

Original CCT will stay intact apart from boring out tread where currently you put "cover" bolt - so, I am using same principle you did with bolt mod - I allow original CCT design to take of slack in chain, but it go only one way, as when it try to turn back - ratchet will stop it.
So, that spring on top is not "rotating" spring, it is straigh spring that work on ratchet - even if it break down worst case you will have to rely one normal stock CCT opration method.
But: it will not break down, as it got no constant "work" on it: it just pushing down top part of ratchet pair.

Post by bluesman »

only problem is - who can do some machining to make it....
I got no chance to make it here - may be I can back in my home country, but certainly not here....
Let's hope somebody will answer and will machine it for me - I just want to see if it works....
