Sub frame

Post by Phimosis »

My poor subframe is showing signs of rust, ie the paint has peeled off in places revealing bare flesh, is it a hard task to "get it off" so i can hammerite it??? If its beyond mere mortals is the only way with a dremmel in small patches then a fine paint brush.

The subframe is easy to remove.

A digital camera is your friend. Take photos of any wire/cable routing so when you reinstall you can make sure its all in the right place.

Seat off, plastics off, disconnect battery, remove any items from the subframe (Reg/Rec etc), drop undertray off, remove the 4 bolts and job done.
It looks more complicated than it actually is.

Oops!! Forgot to say...

Unattach the exhaust cans from the foot pegs OR just remove the footpegs from the subframe!

Sorry!!

took mine off yesterday, takes about 5 mins.
one thing to add to above, unplug the double rear light sockets and leave the light in the plastic seat fairing. unplug these first, and work forward, unplugging and photographing as you go. i removed all the leccy boxes and plugged them back into the loom, saves them getting lost/damaged.
once all the bolts are out, the undertray needs a good twist each side about where the pillion pegs fit, and the snap-to-fit bit under the battery was tight on mine, a rubber mallet assisted....
