Clock lights come on when braking

Post by Rampant Lion »

Noticed a strange thing earlier. Started the bike up with the lights off. Applied the front brake and there was a glow from the clocks when I applied the brake. Is this normal. Thought about some internal check going on. Or do I have an electrical problem.

Any thoughts..

Sounds like a bad earth somewhere, shouldn't do that as normal

That sounds like a bad earth somewhere, but worth checking out the rear light bulbs filaments first. I have known one filament in a bulb to blow and drop down onto the one below it, causing the power to jump from one circuit to the other as the brake lever is applied which would power up the dash lights,

Chris.

PS. Oops, it looks like AMcQ and I think alike on the earth bit

As Sirch says, it will be in the tail light or wiring to it. As that is the point where the side lights and brake lights sit close together.

Looks like one of the tail bulbs is the culprit. Thanks for the help.

just thought I'd add to this having solved the problem! make sure the connectors are fitted into the bulb holder correctly  should go in the underside and NOT directly into the back and back to front like the top one......have even been able to reconnect the front sidelight again too as that doesn't flash with the brakes any more
