Spark plug change intervals
Hey Guys!
What intervals do you change your plugs at?
I Last changed mine last June (When i bought the bike) Iv got me new oil and filter ready for when I get the bike back out after winter, but just wondering weather or not to do the plugs while im at it???
And when it comes out of hibernation Iv also got a nice 14t front sproket to try out mmm !!!
regards Scott

Hi Scott, if memory serves, it's every 24,000 miles or sooner if preferred?
As for oil and filter, I do mine every 3 months regardless.
Chris.

iridiums are past there best beyond 5-8k.
and you cant clean them like you would ordinary plugs as it bolloxes the coating up.
small price to pay for good performance tbh.
mine were about a fiver each free delivery.
at that price you have no excuse

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Agree with BH, noticeable improvement in performance, 5k max for me, the plugs are shot by then. Doesnt a 14t sprocket give clearance issues??? maybe im wrong but look into it before you go doing it.benny hedges wrote:iridiums are past there best beyond 5-8k.

14t front is going to give you mental acceleration, your speedo will read 100 when your doing 78, you will be wheelying everywhere and generally having a jolly old time.
She told me she was 16.
Re: Spark plug change intervals
I can say through trial and some error that a 15t front and 43 rear is the way to go, horses for courses but this to me gives me all the beans I need and gives you an easier time on the clutch in town, you can also use the engine to its fullest extent as I feel the bike is over geared anyway......

Whats the way around keeping the 14t sprocket and a more accurate speedo? Where does the speedo cable go to?

much prefer the 15t & std rear tbh though my motor is probably a bit different to yours lol ;)

Re: Spark plug change intervals
I had my iridium plugs out the other day to have a look at and they still look brand new after 17,000 miles. So I'm just going to carry on using them.
Re: Spark plug change intervals
17000 miles......change them then you will see how shagged they are ........

lol .I have got a spare set. I'll give them a try and see if I notice anything.
Re: Spark plug change intervals
Spare as in new? You will notice easier starting, more crispness to the throttleometer and an ickle bit more fuel economySteve6088 wrote:Phimosis wrote:17000 miles......change them then you will see how shagged they are ........

Spark plug change intervals
Hi, just started to do a service on my bike (first time - novice mechanic).
I have bought NGK Iridium DPR9EIX-9 plugs and I'm not sure if I'm fitting them right. I have refitted them and torqued them up but the lead doesn't push down flush.
Am I doing this right? Would water get into the plug and lead?
Sorry if this is simple but I can't find the answer using the search function.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Rob
