The decorative type chroming isn't suitable for forks as they need precision grinding and then re-chroming in Hard chrome(thicker if my memory serves correctly) back to the correct size. Quite a precision operation to get it right, and that's why I was looking at the options between replacement stanchions and having them chromed.
I phoned Reactive suspension today, they are the company Tony posted a link to. They do replacement stanchions in chrome, titanium nitride coating (gold) or diamond like coating (black). The chrome stanchions work out at about the same price as having mine re-chromed at Philpots. However the Gold & Black finishes are a lot more expensive.
I am going to give a few more companies a call before deciding which was to go.
Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero F3, 954 USD front, K Tech springs, Braced swinger, Ohlins shock, Six spoke Mockesini wheels, Harris rearsets, QaT, Flywheel diet!, A&L stacks, stick coils, K&N, FP Ti jets, Mori pipe's [colour]
But the cost mate, jeez. About a quarter of the value of my bike (or all the value of yours! ).
K-Tech seem to have replacement chrome stanchions for £85 so I will give them a ring tomorrow. I would love the bling value of the diamond finish or the gold but spending that sort of cash was never the purpose of buying and modding the Storm.

Spend spend spend....once you have doubled the bikes value with add ons, there is no point in counting after that
The whole point of modding a storm, is a) it was cheap to start with so with the money you saved you can then spend more and b) nobody else will have the same thing and c) you can sell on the bling bits on here when you are done (getting all your money back) and tony will take the rest of the bike off you as scrap
Go on, treat your self...black chrome would look good on mine, you might need the yellow coloured Ti nitride to brighten your otherwise dull paint scheme
I am in the fortunate position of not needing to enhance the aesthetics of my premier coloured Storm, Oh sod it I'm not doing this again, Blue Good, Yellow bad!
Al, I want the best I can make it on a reasonable budget. The USD's will have K-Tech uprated springs and valves so K-tech stanchions sound good for now. The diamond coat was something like £399 a leg so I would need a lot of convincing to release that sort of cash, even knowing that in the future I could donate the bike to the chuckle brothers, as mentioned, to bring a little pleasure to their otherwise drab existence.

Just to round off this thread I bought uprated springs, suitable for my sylph like figure, and new Showa fork stanchions for the 954 forks from K-Tech. They are a very helpful firm and fitted the fork lowers onto the new stanchions for me.
The springs worked out to £85 the pair and stanchions were £80 (with a 25% reduction as they were in stock for some time).
I have re-built the forks using the 10w silkolene oil with a 100mm air gap recommended by them. Now just waiting for this weather to piss off so I don't stick to the bike whilst working on it.
