Pissing oil
Pissing oil
Arghhhh
well rode it to work last night, Engine felt great, fulling a bit lumpy at low revs guessing it needs a balance on the carbs or tick over adjusting.
On the way about 3 miles from work felt the rear spin up coming out of a left hander at traffic lights, put it down to the cold... got to work put it on side stand, looked down FOOOOOK!
loads oil leaking from the Generator / Flywheel cover
Because the inspection cap was fooked i couldn't take it off to do the CCT's so i just took the whole cover off, gasket was shagged so used that instant stuff
it held on a short test ride, but on way to work it gave way and blew out at the bottom, lucky the oil was just above min level when i got to work,
So had to leave it at work and order some gaskets from silvers again. hope they arrive in good time this time too.

Re: Pissing oil
Instant gasket should have been fine on the alt cover; no reason that it would have leaked from there.
Are you sure it was from that cover?
Another possible option is a split oil line directly below it, or the oil cooler union loosening.
That would allow the oil to blow upwards onto the cover under pressure.
The one that's got me before was having one of the half-moon cam cover seals out of alignment, hard to see but easy to do.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: Pissing oil
do us all a favour..... next time anyone buys any gaskets, lay them flat on some squared paper and take a good pic of them, so they can be printed to scale.seb421 wrote:So had to leave it at work and order some gaskets from silvers again. hope they arrive in good time this time too.
or at least measure critical dimensions...
then we can compile a gallery of gasket templates in the workshop section.
clutch gasket, cct, genny casing, base gasket.... anyone think of any more?
i know you can get hold of them to order, but it would be nice to be able to print one off on some gasket card... get you out the sh1t quick

the cam cover bolt seals got me as well tony... i'd accidentally put 2 seals on one bolt & left one bolt with no seal

i thought it was the cooler leaking so bought another lol.
if id thought on i couldve got the bigger one - double

It was pitch black and inside has poor light but pretty sure it was from the Alt cover mate, wombles hope so any way!tony.mon wrote:Instant gasket should have been fine on the alt cover; no reason that it would have leaked from there.

Hopefully I just haven't put or covered the required area with sealant...
Will take a torch to work and have a look.
Fingers crossed.

if it's any help, i can get gaskets flo-jet cut..... could do a batch of each one?
i know a bloke who works at a place that's got a cnc waterjet cutter, i've had paper gaskets cut there before, the same machine also cuts 60mm steel plate!!!!

Re: Pissing oil
sounds like a plan. once i've got a set of paper gaskets i'll pop and see him to get a price.

Re: Pissing oil
I have an original clutch cover gasket you could borrow, if you're after one of those for a master set?

Re: Pissing oil
i've just looked in my 'goodie box', i've got camchain tensioner and alternator gaskets.
is there a specific type of gasket paper to get? maybe get a roll??
