Front Suspension Travel.. and a favour

I was going to ask if anyone has an idea of the answer... or if anyone could put a cable tie on one of the front legs and let me know how close it gets to the bottom yoke after a spirited ride of some description?

I only really want to know the distance from the bottom of the yoke to the maximum height of travel of the lower leg or how much free space there is between them i have available.

I was thinking that if I measure the length of the visible stanchion with no weight of the bike on it, take away the distance between the two yokes and the distance of travel quoted that should give me the distance/clearance figure I am after (will also have to take into account if the forks have been dropped by the 10/15mm some people do)... I just wanted to double check it with some real time numbers more than anything... just in case my thinking or numbers aren't quite right.
