MWR Racing filters
Re: MWR Racing filters
Presumably it's a reusable type and would need dynoing and rejetting etc. and less restrictive 'zaust (than standard) to get the best gains. I'd like to see development dyno results before splashing out.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: MWR Racing filters
I'd anticipate gains on a standard bike (standard exhausts, no jet kit) as well as on more modified ones, but obviously less gains.
As regards jetting, that will certainly release more power, but should be no more necessary than putting any other performance filter on.
Broadly speaking, rejetting should be done when fitting any performance filter, for max benefit, but I know lot of people won't bother, or will at least put it off for a while.
Not much point rejetting fter adding a filter, then later putting cans and a jet kit on. Might as well wait until it's all done, then invest the dyno time, rather than get it re-dyno'd after every change.
I'll publish the results of testing, and only once we have proper data will they go up for sale.
I should be able to recommend jet sizes to match the filter, so that people can get it near enough without needing to pay for dyno time.

Tony, are we talking to the SuperHawk forum guys yet?

Re: MWR Racing filters
id be interested as im thinking of gettin a K&N, but if this gives better power gains & allows the fitting of the VFR tank?
Maybe I Don't Like Your Bike Either!

I emailed Wilco telling him that we'd posted up an "are you interested" post here, in Superhawk, and Mik_str's also copied it over to the Oz site, too.
He replied with these additional comments:
Hi Tony
Yes , I saw it ,
First comment , I developed the same system also for the Ducati’s Monsters , Hypermotards , SportClassics and Supersports and nobody complains about hot air coming in the airbox when you stand still or rides .
On my facebook you can find foto’s and a comparo of one of these filters , on a ‘94 900 SS std vs MC-020-90HE .
Here you see that torque and power increase quite a bit .
And isn’t it so that the 900ss has the same vacuum Mikuni carbs as the VTR ?
Gr Wilco
I didn't know that the carbs are the same as 900ss, anyone got one for comparison?
And if they are the same, is the frame/linkage identical, too?
Check out the link on the MWR site to his Facebook- those dyno charts look very promising...

Re: MWR Racing filters
900SS carbs were Mikuni 38s, VTR uses 48mm Keihins, although both are CV type.....
As far as the lidless set-up is concerned, it's what Roger recommends to people with Stage 1 (or more) mods. I gave it a go but my tech/tuner couldn't get it to work. Perhaps the presence of a plate to reduce turbulence would make it more easily achieveable. One thing is certain, the VTR, like most engines (notably big twins due to their unsymmetrical timing) could benefit from larger airbox volume (which removing the lid would esentially do). FWIW, SP1 and SP2 owners using the Durbahn airbox (which also uses the tank bottom as a quasi-lid) report significant increases in power (@ 8 bhp) once the fueling is adjusted.

UPDATE:
Here's the prototypes, on their way to us for testing....
Looking forward to testing these out.
