Luggage advise

Hi all

Have any of you used Oxford X50 throw over panniers ? I'm going to be using the storm for a few weekends away this year so looking to be able to carry a few bits and bobs. Just wondered how secure they fit ect ?

I have used Oxford first timers before now without any issues. Strap fits under the seat without any problem,
One thing I would say though is use an old towel or cloth to protect the plastics where the straps fit, This will prevent any damage from them rubbing.

You'll find the throwovers break the lugs on the side panels unless you either re-inforce them with some alloy strip and rivets or pack a piece of dowel/broomhandle between then to stop them bending inwards and breaking

those were going to be my comments.........I described the broom handle in another post, but could do some pictures if you cant work it out from words

I used the throw overs for a trip to the Scottish Highlands. They didn't break the tail piece lugs but popped the fittings out.
I used the squidgy matting that came with them but they still managed to mark the paint work. Quite a bit of faffing about with them as well.
I got rid of them in favour of the Ventura system, expensive but works really well. I now have two bags a big and small, they zip together with a combined capacity for enough things for a two or more week tour.

1. By an old seat for a Storm.
2. Drill holes in the pillion part.
3. Bolt an old wooden box on it.
4. Fill it with stuff, ride.
5. Er, that's it, really.

if you're just using throwovers then I find mine fit very nicely across the front part of the seat, your then sat on the straps and they sit under knees....might be an issue if you're taking a pillion tho.

That actually looks good, didn't think you could buy hard luggage for the Storm. I bought a rack for mine, it's only held on with four bolts and would not be able to carry to much weight,.

I don't have any links because it was a long while ago. It is/was all Kappa stuff - they sold a "universal kit" which meant quite a bit of head scratching as to what would fit where and some subframe drilling too to munt top brackets, but after that I could get the whole rack assembly on and off in about 20 minutes.

I drilled an extra hole on the side of the rear mudguard for one of the supports. If I can find any other pics I'll post. It worked really well but I don't use it now as I have a system on my TDM which does all the distance work (at 57mpg, you can understand why!)

i think it suits the bike really well and it would deffo make wheelies easier.......
