got myself another 'storm.

Post by rob... »

collected another 'storm today. long story, but no cash changed hands. 8) 8) 8)

it's an insurance write off due to frame damage.

matey was sitting at a red light, in gear, clutch in, when he got rear ended (not very hard) by a car, causing him to drop the clutch and open the throttle as he fell off the back.... the bike looped, landed upside down, then fell over.
result- smashed screen, most fairing panels cracked, subframe bent. and that's it.
the reason for right-off? one of the little lugs that hold the fairing/clocks subframe onto the headstock has snapped off.
it's got some nice bits on... remus carbon race cans, full length belly pan...
very low milage too, but the battery is flat, so i can't get an accurate milage til 2mora.

not sure what to do with it.

it's yellow, but a different yellow to my other one.

might build it all across into my still taxed and mot'd frame that i stripped for my project build, would just need to notify dvla of change of engine number before i sell it....

if the milage is as low as i'm told, i could keep the new engine and put my old one back together using its original engine, just the running gear off this'n...

or break it.....

or just swap my spare subframe over and keep it as a second bike....

decisions, decisions.....

best have a

also picked up a duc 916 front and back end, and most of a z1000 lawson rep, inc. a full race big bore motor, jmc box section arm, ohlins shocks...

no idea what i'm gonna do with it all, but it was too good a deal to pass up. lol.

the duc arm, forks, yokes are mirror polished. 8)
the Zthou lawson frame has been properly braced in all the right places.
it's an early, rare jmc arm with taper roller bearings.
they're pukka ohlins piggyback shocks, not the cheapies you get on the zrx1200sp that i thought they were.

the storm has done 6,500 miles from new, :D came with a full tank of fuel, and purrs like a swiss watch thru its remus carbons.
i swapped the subframe over, bunged my number plate on it and went for a quick spin. (naughty). rides fine.
i've trimmed the bottom damaged part off the fairing so it ends just under the little air intakes, ordered a new screen, front brake lever, (the one on it is bent), and clock mount. there's a few scratches and scuffs on it, but i can live with that.
next week i'll swap it all over into my other frame thats still taxed and tested (and not a cat B) and notify change of engine number.
i think i'll use it till april/may time then decide whether to keep it as a second 'storm or sell it....

all in all, quite a result. :D
