Whats the best road you've ridden, home or abroad??

Can't name a single road, but the following are my short list.
1) the A6 from Kendal over shap to Carlisle
2) the A483 from Crossgates to Newtown
3) the A44 from Aber to Rhayader
4) the A701 from Moffat to Edinburgh ..the devils beef tub
5) the A702 thornhill to Elvanfoot...Dalveen pass

Sorry I forgot A5004 From Matlock to Whaley Bridge .. Goyt valley....the cat & fiddle and snake pass would also be on there if it weren't for the speed cameras and helicopters....only a matter of time before the Goyt valley get the same focus, then it will be spoiled as well

That is an absolutely blissful 12 miles of riding heaven. We stay near Crossgates (Llanbister) most years and do that stretch several times.

In France, The Route Napoleon is also a favourite of mine - Digne-les-Bains to Grasse

Bugger, I forgot the Route Napoleon. Completely agree with that to !!

ive done through france and through the mont blanc tunnel to milan in a van would be spectacular on a bike definitley on my bucket list

Did Wales last year and the a466 sticks in my mind, we valley, monmouth etc, the sun came out and it was awesome, also horseshoe pass bit would have been better if it wasn't pissing foe for that ( good ol Wales).

Rode up the Dukes pass a couple of times it runs between Aberfoyle and Callander nice and twisty.
Another good one is the small glen which runs from Crieff over to Aberfeldy some great views on this road.
And finally A93 from Blairgowrie up and over the hill to Ballater and beyond great road.

Can't remember the name (number) of the road but it leads from Weymouth down to Bridport (I think?) and runs parallel with Chesil Beach for some of it's length, it's a real cracker of a ride. The others that stand out were the Wrynose Pass and Hardknot Pass but not on a sports bike, supermoto/trailie.
Here's to more, yet to be discovered, with a few Storms around me.

Chris, Don't tell them where to go- keep them on the Glen Coe road and we can have the rest to ourself..
Best I've done is Ullapool to Thurso, get to the top of the glen and theres 11miles of road stretching in front of you, and if your really unlucky there might be 2 other motors on the same road..
A9 from Wick to Inverness, Inverness to Fort William but go down the south side of the Loch..

Forgot about this road it comes of the A896 and it goes over to Applecross think its the heighest road in britian. It has been on the tv lately channel 5 about the frozen roads and snow plough men.
Its a brilliant road going back that way in the summer just watch out for the midges they will eat you alive.

APPARENTLY the thing to use to keep the midges at bay is Avon Skin So Soft.

Ladies' tights also help, and tassles on your handlebar ends- same effect as a horse's butt.

Just feed the local wildlife, stop being so ungenerous, and remember, fish lice are Cod's creatures, too.

Uk - B6047 Mkt Harborough road, also B664 before the tw@-butt 50mph baldrocks started. Most roads where I lived abroad (whaaaaa!) as there was no bugger living there, but my favourite road is the one at Jerez, spain at the circuit - splendid!

nearly all the roads where i live in spain/flix/tarragona are great biking roads and theres hardly ever traffic or plod, just wish i had my bike there......

Also:
1) Stockiemuir Road, up past the Carbeth Inn - great road, full of traffic..
2) A819 - heading for Dunoon when you've left Inverary. Great road running down the side of Loch Awe - long straights, not much traffic.
3) A830 - Ft William>Mallaig "The Road to the Isles". Well worth the 100 miles from Glasgow to Fort William. Every type of road you can imagine, glens, mountains, lochs, sea. Amazing. and there's a decent pub at the end!

Matter, Re Road to the Glens- have you been up it since they have completed all the road works? not sure if it will have the same character- halfway up there at Lochailort, take the A861- probable one of the nicest places in Scotland- Just take a spare bottle of fuel with you!!
If any ones going up that way, the Back of Keppoch hotel just past Arisaig is highly recomended- Tall Dave might make you double lock the door, but its one of the best up there.

That sounds a bit dodgy.... Why the double door locking? Is it to keep Tall Dave out?
