Number Plate Flipper

Post by seb421 »

Should the need or desire arise to hide / obscure your plate from view this may be of interest to you?

i looked into these about a year ago, but they come with a lot of risk, firstly the fact that you have it means theres more chance you will do something very silly, secondly i would be worrying weither or not it had spasedout and was up or down, thirdly if plod saw this on your bike, even if it was stationary, its a nick, and trust me traffic police know about numberplate flippers, i know of one person that has a flipper and he has istalled it so its very very difficult to spot and its activated by the horn button if i remember correctly and its even got another switch somewhere which shuts it down so it can't be activated by the horn, just incase pc plod are checking his bike, my biggest problem is i would be taking valuble concentration away from my riding trying to remember, oh theres a camera or i'm going to do a wheelie, i must remeber to do the flipper, because if your doing something silly chances are your gonna be doing silly speed, so the police will more than likely see you or hear you before you see them, so are you going to flip the plate every time you do something a bit unlawful....hmmmm
in the end i decided to go for a plate just a little bit smaller than normal and i'll keep my finger crossed the police officers eyesight might be a bit iffy
i do think they look cool tho, just not sure they're worth the risk.
HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!

dunno if you sw that telly prog last year, think it was festival of speed or something - the police were camping everywhere looking for naughty bikers, had unmarked spotters riding in the pack etc...
they caught a few with these fitted and every one of them got their bikes impounded!

they can hit you will allsorts for it now like section 59, perverting the course of justice, insurance offences, and even confiscate your reg number which basically cat b's your bike. even more annoying if you have paid for a private reg!

i wouldnt bother honestly - it instantly puts you in court lol, even if you are not using it!

just 'accidentally' swap 2 of the numbers/letters round in your plate when you order on-line to replace your damaged one.... .... having a small plate or a flippy one is VERY NAUGHTY, apparently, but 'displaying the wrong index number' is only slightly naughty, and won't gain you any points....
When subjected to an electrical voltage of at least 50 volts, a cat's tail always points toward the north.

Thought about this a while back, and although it's quite easy to hide something, it's also easy to find and fine.

You have to have a number plate illumination light, but is there any reg or rule about how powerful it is?

If your plate is shiny, and the illuminating light is bright enough and positioned at such an angle that it basically reflects directly back towards the rear, it would make it difficult to see, even for a camera.

Something like the pod lights you can get to bolt onto off-roaders: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9 ... Y2l826QWOA

Mount this under the tail, pointing vertically down, position the number plate at 45 degrees, and the reflection will be aimed straight back at the observer, and as far as I know, no law broken.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

i got nicked once because on a bike i had - reg JEK249V 'someone' had put black tape on the plate so it read UEK

there was no such reg and thats why they pulled me.
i scraped free by explaining someone mustve done it as a prank.
