could be that the speedo sender is stuffed.
Mine died, approx £100 to get a new one.
Bit of a bugger to fit.
There is a section in the firestorm manual on checking it.

Thats what happened on mine.
You have checked the connectors under the seat, see if any are loose from the sender unit. That'll give you the bouncing needle.

ok, i've used the bike everyday since reporting this fault, ironically, it's not done it since.....

Now convinced it was my own fault........

Day before this happened, i gave the bike a serious clean, which included the use of a power washer.......

I'm now thinking it was nothing more than excess water in the connections, and now it's dried out. it's all ok.....

Mmmmmm. As my speedo has been broken for over a year now, I used to find the opposite, after cleaning it it worked, but when it dried out the speedo stopped working again? :?

Water and mud can be a good conductor RQ.
It can cause shorts or (on rare occasions) can remake conections.
A little squirt of WD40 in all the conectors can't hurt. It repells water and helps remake the contacts.

Power wash Ebloke 8O 8O 8O
watch out for wheel bearings, chain, electrical connectors and paint decals. They're a recipe for disaster when used on a bike IMHO go carefull

It might. heavy damp air always increases the profrmance of an engine
but on the other hand if something shorts to something it doesn't like
it might just keel over and die on you.
I guess you'll have to try it and let us know how you get on

Yep, was carefull, (apart from the speedo apparently  ) lubed/greased all the important bits afterwards. It just needed a good hosing off as i'd been using it constantly for weeks in crud weather.....

Using me DR600 now, so the storm is all dried/shiny sitting in the garage now waiting for a bit of sunshine....
