Re: Circumference ride around Britain
You do get a lot more mpg on long hauls because you're constantly on a hot engine with less cold starts. Nevertheless my calculation was over-optimistic. First stage will be to work out the actual mileage.
Re: Circumference ride around Britain
The total mileage of the route I've planned is 2900 miles.
Fuel cost (based on £16 per 100 miles) £464
Scottish Isles Ferries Hopscotch ticket £100
Ferries N Ireland and Isle of Man £150
Campsites/B&B's £100
Grand Total Cost £800
Total Time 7 days

That's the spirit go for it.
A lot of gits just buy a big bike and ride round and round the Town center .Wonder what for?
My bike will not do 50mpg if I cane it or crawl along but at A road speeds it does.

Re: Circumference ride around Britain
Yeah, I like caning it around but a steady 80 or so does give me 50+ mpg especially on long trips as nearly all the mileage is on a hot engine (makes a LOT of difference on a storm does engine temp. On a cold engine lucky to get 30 mpg)).
Interesting European trip that above but I've had a UK circumference trip in my mind for a long time. I think there's still a lot of great new places in the UK to visit on a bike before I get too old. I did the circumference of Ireland on a Kwak GPZ900R and there's no better way to view places than on a bike as you really sense the environment around you. Connemara mountains, Galway, Kerry, all experienced from a bike in Ireland. Circumference of UK will give me all those east coast of England seaside towns I've never seen, all those Scottish isles, the lonely unused roads in that northwest tip of the Highlands, the rugged coastal roads of Northern Ireland, the beautiful lanes around Wales, the list is endless.
Cooking hot meals outside the tent, booking in at b&b's, drinking in bars in strange towns, and rolling along roads I've never been on or havn't seen in years. Ireland was like that and this will be as well.
Yup, bring it on!

Sounds awesome fella.
I am just North of Dundee in Forfar and you are very welcome to come grab a cooked meal. Let us know of your progress and if you would like some company, I would be up for pairing up with you for the ride to Stonehaven.

Problem with the storm is the temptation to open it up and hear those cans is so strong!
