Getting paranoid

Post by StormingHonda »

Ever since I came on this site I keep hearing about people CCTs going on them and eating the engine.

its making me REALLY paranoid.

I've got a set lined up thanks to Bazza and plan to do ( with a little supervision ) the CCTs on workshop day.

I would do them at home but I need someone who has done it or know what they are doing to keep an eye.

The CCT issue really played on my mind with the last storm.

So whats the chances of them going within the next couple of week  .

Honda Rekon I would get enough warning before they went, but reading here obviously not.

The bikes an 02 with 19K on the clock.

What do ya rekon?

Using a lottery metaphor - 'You've got to be in it to win it' and with OEM CCTs you've got a lucky dip ticket - unfortunately if only a couple of numbers come up then instead of a fiver prize, you stand to win an imploded top end...

Basically you are right to be paranoid and looking forward to ditching old CCTs in favour of manuals.

and no you aren't guaranteed a warning of imminent demise...

If in any doubt read these threads

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

On the flip side, my old storm had done 37000 miles with no issues, then there was a slight rattle/tick from the front one. No engine explosions or anything else dramatic.Rode the bike to my mechanic, got them changed, job done. My mate had his go on him and he hit the killswitch quicksmart, did no damage. He got them changed for OE Honda ones, had the bike another 5 years, no problems.

I'm sure there are people who have been unlucky, but lets face it, I bet there are many many vtr's around that theres been no issues with, and you only ever hear the bad news.

Where are you based anyway ?

You have to just ride it for the next 2 weeks and get them changed at the workshop day...........the probability is there, but like wining £50 on the lottery, for many people it never happens.

I have the stopper mod in my original Honda CCT's and they are at 27k in a 97 bike and still running.......if it was me I would still ride it for the next 2 weeks and dont waste the sunny days worrying. if it does go bang, then it is fate, and you should do the lottery that same day

I rode mine for about four years before ''bothering'' to change to a pair of Bazza's finest, it did play on my mind but not to the extent of being paranoid.

We'll see you at the workshop day & you can ride home happy & un-paranoid.

I live in purfleet so not to far, from the workshop day.

I could use the Harley for the next week and half.

I know that with anything you always hear the bad news on the internet as its often people who have had stuff go wrong come online to find out about it.

As with noises, its a V-Twin, I have extensive experience with V twins and they make all sorts of messed up noises, if you heard the harley, you would think its on it last legs  .

The VTR makes noises, but when you pull the clutch in it goes away, so I'm not worried.

I Have a 1996 XL1200 C Sportster Custom Couple of years ago it give me hell during the winter and then broke down big time, so I bought a second bike for winter, the Harley really hates the cold weather its got a side mounted Carb and it suffers from icing, so I bought a second bike to use for work and mainly winter.

I'll see if I can find some batterys for the camera and get a pic
