I had mine up on the paddock stand and the oil was still in it. It didn't go anywhere. The two fairing screws need to come off to get access to two generator cover screws. The difficult bit is routing the wires outof the bike.

I know this is a bodge to an extent but I managed to get away with using the same gasket as it hadn't deteriorated much and still created a seal.

The clutch cover side I recommend doing whilst it's on the side stand so that most of the oil is drained back to the sump. This one is fiddly due to the pipes and such. I'd say take the fairing off to do that one.

Looking good there Jazzscot, only a bit more to go. Autosol, don't you just love it Probably worth laquering when finished.

Now what colour? I'm half tempted to go yellow, to match the rest of the bike, just to make it really offensive! Oh, and the wheels will need doing (winter job)... Yellow too?

How about Gold? would go well with the yellow and the extra weight won't make any differance.

if you don't skimp on preparation and make sure you thoroughly mask off the rest of the bike from overspray

The better the prep, the better the finish. It's all in the prep! I personally would prefer to remove the covers, but then I can be a fussy b8stard.

The chrome indi bulbs & clear lenses he fitted are chrome bulbs & clear lenses apparently, by the look of it. That's the way I read it.

Started her and rode to work - first time since Christmas, went the long way round. Bloody delight.

Fitted the Viper baffles, took it for MOT (passed ), bought Castrol oil to replace the Halfords stuff that was making the clutch slip, changed oil, went for a ride in between showers........clutch no slip any more

I now have 5l of halfords oil to use in my chain oiler....that might last a very long time!

I've always be wary of non-bike specific oil for exactly that reason. Cars (and Ducatis) have dry clutches, so car oil tends to have lots of lovely anti-stick, slippy additives, all the things that you really don't want coating a surface which relies on friction. I'm sure the additives are listed in the SAE specs, and it would be possible to check for a car oil without them, but life is too short!

Bike in for an MOT today and it flew through no problems.

I hate the feeling of dread you get on the ride to the MOT station though. Even managed to pass with my lovely loud Art cans on.

Nice explanation for all those folks thinking they could use car oil.
tankslapper, AMXQ46 know's his stuff mate. He's probably put Halfords motorcycle oil in. There's alaways the question of whether to use semi-synthetic or fully-synthetic as well. On my Fazer if fully synthetic is used, it tends to cause clutch slip, so reccomended to use semi. I believe on the VTR's it's fully-synth that should be used. Not sure why it varies from bike to bike.
