What are the added restrictions for 2 cylinder MotoGP?
What are the added restrictions for 2 cylinder MotoGP?
MotoGP allow up to 1000cc for 4 cylinder bikes and 1200cc for 2 cylinder bikes but with restrictions. Anyone know what those restrictions are?

on a commentary last year Cox mentioned about adding weight, like on the gee gees. No idea how or where though to make it safe, if true, nor how they work it out.

Have a look at the attached -

I think the 1000 & 1200 applies to WSB.

The nail in the coffin for any 2-cyl. (or three cyl. for that matter) MotoGP effort is the 81mm bore size limit......

as far as im aware its 1000cc max in the GP class? was 800cc, 990cc / 500cc 2stroke and just 500 2strokes before that oneImage wrote:MotoGP allow up to 1000cc for 4 cylinder bikes and 1200cc for 2 cylinder bikes but with restrictions. Anyone know what those restrictions are?
sounds like wsbk that mate,
checa has added weight at the moment on his 1098R 6kg i think it was? its not like a lump of lead tho they said, they have just added 6kg but using heaver stuff than before, steal bolts etc down low and replaced stuff with heaver components to keep the distribution right
they used to work the weight thing out with where the other manufacturers bike was in relation to the wining one, so it would have worked say checa had finished 1st but the other duke finished way back in the grid then they couldn't apply a cap to his bike and add weight
they changed the rules to stop the duke stomping on the rest of the field like it had done, I think it has restrictors on the air flow fitted and added weight
they haven't used the 1199 or 1198 as they would have capped it even more, tho they are allowed a 1200 it wasn't beneficial and saw no point running it

Re: What are the added restrictions for 2 cylinder MotoGP?
The main restriction is a limit on the number of cylinders.
Get that right and all the rest is easy.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
