Cam Chain Tensioner problems

Post by Bob C »

I am about to embark on a tour of Austria, Switzerland and Bavaria on my 04 plate VTR. Now I know that the earlier VTR models were prone to troublesome cam chain tensioners and they failed, but has anyone heard of the newer models having the same trouble and if so what is the best preventative measures that I can take, short of replacing the current tensioners fitted. Cheers Bob C

There is SOOOO much on here about this that I suggest you do a search first. Short answer - doesn't matter what age the bike/CCT is - replace them with manual ones.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

You really need to get these done for peace of mind.
The stopper mod (just search for it) will be effective, but you could still get a spring failure; just not catastrophic.

Full manual cct's will solve the problem.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
