Engine oil
Engine oil
I have been told that it is important to use a good oil in VTR's, can anyone recommend the best oil to use?
Re: Engine oil

Re: Engine oil
Rock oil guardian good spec for the price, even Halfords own brand 10w40 semi synthetic have done over 120k on that various bikes, no problems!
Remember frequency of change more important than buying a really high spec big brand synthetic product. IMO oil & filter every 4k is ideal.

and Rock Oil is a British product

Re: Engine oil
and this....in another section....
Just taken delivery of 4L Petronas 10w40 MA SL and a Hiflo HF303 filter for £26.95 form ebay dealer seller "Bikedevils" arrived within 24 hours of ordering. They seem to have it listed by bike model, not sure there was one fro the VTR I just chose the first I came across in the list, this is for my VFR but this fitment is for many Honda bikes including the Storm.

Re: Engine oil
Power1 for me, too, especially as you can swap to 10/30W for the winter, and 10/40W for the summer.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Engine oil
Been using 5w 40 full synthetic dont be afraid, the clutch dont slip and it spins up much quicker.
She told me she was 16.

Re: Engine oil
Been using the cheaper Semi Synth 10 40, been talking to the chap in the motor factors and it's the same as a "branded" product, did some checks and confirmed it. I do tend to use genuine Honda filters though, dunno why, just feel happier with them, it's all a personal thing. Oh and I change the oil and filter every six months no matter what mileage the bike has done as Oil does break down with age.
Re: Engine oil
I'm the same, always stick with a genuine Honda oil filer, I can't see the point in scrimping there to save a few bob. As for oil I use Putoline 10/40W semi-synthetic, no real reason for this brand other than the engine has always had this from new.bluestoesonnose wrote: I do tend to use genuine Honda filters though, dunno why, just feel happier with them, it's all a personal thing.

Re: Engine oil
Why would you want too, i guess its a good idea, but you do risk introducing more crap into the motor by cleaning the filter as it may get contaminated whilst cleaning, etc. I'd use disposable filters every time.
