TT - bike choice!
TT - bike choice!
Hi all
Relatively new Firestorm owner. Only done just over 1k riding. Finally got the bike running after changing reg/rec and fixing stuck thermo.
I am off to the TT IOM tomorrow riding from Portsmouth to Liverpool. I have commuted for the past year on a 600 Hornet. Obviously by now I know the bike inside out. Love riding the Storm tho and love the Vtwin on motorways. My concern is am not as confident on the storm compared to the hornet. Cant decide which to go on!!!

Hornet.
It's more suited to the Island's roads, you won't be left behind by much.
More agile, though.
And the Hornet is better on fuel.
Or, another opinion, whichever's got the best tyres on it- you'll need them over there.
If you took the Storm it's the sort of trip to get to know the bike better. Just don't go too balls-out with camping gear all over it.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

no contest...... take the storm!! and meet up with a few of us at parly square mad sunday

4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul...........
Re: TT - bike choice!
they will both be fine, so its down to which one you trust for the trip and like Tony said, which one has the best tyres.
TAKE THE STORM
might see you out there, I set off tomorrow, but just found out the ferry is from Haysham, so will be getting up earlier than I had previously planned

take them both
ride the storm and tow the hornet

you should get lots more camping stuff on both bikes and you will have your own fuel tanker behind you

I agree with the agile part, the Hornets are great to throw about.tony.mon wrote:Hornet.

However having owned 2 600s and a 900 Hornet, I cant agree on the fuel part, especially the 600 Hornet.
Re: TT - bike choice!
It doesn't have better fuel consumption, just a bigger tank, IIRC.

Re: TT - bike choice!
Had a Hornet before the 'Storm.
Definitely the 'Storm. Much more predictable and planted on the road (the Hornet skipped around too much), plus the Twin pulls in any gear, lazy riding
Thing I most loved going from the Hornet was engine braking, if I felt I was going too fast into a corner then I just loosed the throttle and instant braking, without brakes.
Hornet was fine as a first bike for a year then it was too slow. After 10 years I still find the Firestorm does everything I need.

Portsmouth here too so drop me a PM if your heading out for a jaunt and I might be able to join you.
Why is it even a debate. Take the Storm and get to know the thing on proper roads rather than motorways.

And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

Hi all.Cheers for the replies.
Ended up going to the TT on the Hornet... Storms fork seal went night before going! Usual great preparation by myself. Had a great time camping for eight nights in a 2 man tent in St Johns! Plenty of drink and laughs with my mates tho.
Since returning home I have received confirmation that I am to move to New Zealand to work.. Therefore Both bikes need to be sold asap!!!
