Funny, that, as I learnt most of it from Spanish taxi drivers......

Arrived today, so all parts now here.
I took the upper crankcase half and pistons to the rebore blokey, should be done this week, and then it's rebuild time

Rebore done, bores were worn very oval, but side-to-side, not front-to-back. I really don't understand this, as there was very little piston wear.
All I can think of is that the cylinders had distorted at some stage, maybe due to lack of coolant?
Front was much worse than rear. A strange problem, I hadn't found this before on these engines.
Or it's been apart before?
That explains the lack of compression, anyway.
Ring gaps were larger than max specified wear.
Either way, the rebuild's now under way, +.5 pistons (the only oversize available from Honda) with their new rings are in place, settled in their bores, crankcases back in one piece, and all properly torqued up.
New mains and big ends fitted, and oil pump back in, checked and ok.

After a brief ride-out with a couple of reprobates I got down to some work and got as far as:

Engine in frame, swingarm and shock mounted, rear wheel in, alternator side built and footrests on.

More anon.....couldn't continue any more as Radio 1 is the only radio station I can get in the gge, and it was getting crasser and crasser....2 hours of Plan B is enough.

Saw it yesterday in Tonys workshop. Looking great I thought. Just the redness to deal with....... Am I right in thinking the Japanese decals translate to 'wish I was silver'?
