Rearsets for the lot of us?

Post by seb421 »

Wanted rearsets for ages but don't want to pay the silly prices for them

like what tweety did ages ago and was looking through his posts again

http://www.superhawkforum.com/forums/kn ... wap-17889/

Can some one make up this plate, possibly some one with the skills like GLSR on here maybe? wink wink

Would be great if we could chip in and get a batch made up?

I was thinking about this a while ago and spoke to some other people about it, there are a few ideas going on in the background and some more involved than others with frame re-inforcement etc. I am sure one route will be better for some and another route better for others though.

I think the thing is making a choice between the cheap universal ones available on ebay or sets dedicated for the blades etc that are also readily available and creating a nice plate for one or the other.. (maybe both??)

I notice he has a plate he makes then another with all the adjustment holes in it ...some in your pics include this plate (the gold ones) and some have no adjustment plates at all (red and blue ones). I personally think it would be nicer to do away with the extra plate with all the holes in it and make it all from one piece with them in it and then just get the rearsets.

I was on the verge of buying one of the cheap universal sets and then making the plates etc to see how they fitted and went for offset etc to the linkage, master cylinder etc and if there were additional parts that would have to be made such as spacers rather than just a plate but wasn't sure if anyone would want them afterwards. The Universal ones are all different in a way and I know we all like different things but I think they may require subtley different plates... and not a nice universal plate that fits all... Hence the tought behind the blade fitment.

Be nice to know what people think though as the plate and associated spacers in all honesty wouldn't be that difficult to manufacture.
Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?

Thanks for the reply mate

I think tweety used a cheap 1000RR rep set said somthing about the honda using a standard mount Patten if you model them on a recent blade so that might be the better option as like you said there is a few about on the bay

I'm in anyways, I sure you have a few more fans after the engine bungs recently

I'd definetly be up for some of that. We recently had a water jet cutter installed here at work. So could help out with cutting if needed.

I would be interested depending on price

Here's some more info from Tweety
Ok, I finally had the time to measure these... This is my "drawings" for my adapters... Not complete by any means... Keep in mind this is not scaled... I gave up trying to find a decent Freeware Cad program to transfer my paper outlines/measurements...

So to use this, you need to look at measurements, not the image of the footrest, it's just there for reference... (So, no you can't print it and sketch it off...) I used the pivot bolt as my point of reference and measure it out in a grid... Also, all measurements are in mm, not inches, you get to convert them if you want it any other way... All measurements are +/- .2 mm

The two bolt holes I measured out, is where I placed the boltholes on my adapters... That placement allowed me to set the footpegs at the OEM position with the adjustable rearsets set "in the middle" of the optional holes... So these apply to my rearsets alone... Again, just for reference...

The marking for the OEM placement of the rearset is there... Use that as a point of reference and place the rearset of your choice there, measure out your starting position and your "star" of holes for adjustment... Make sure they don't go inside the rings, that's where you want a big nut, and the material intact...

The vertical reference I used is set to where the stock footpeg has the rubber horisontally... In my case I could ignore that, as I used round alu pegs, but if you are using OEM rearsets from another bike, keep that in mind when aligning stuff...

Also, the front outline on the chain side is somewhat important, as it follows the contour of the sprocket guard, not following the outline, makes it impossible to fit the footpeg/adapter...

I simplified mine by making the plate uniformly thick, countersinking the smaller bolts and adjusting the spacer length a bit... If you make a CNC version, you can make it nicer, I included the OEM measurements for reference...

But if I'm honest I prefer the PappySmears solution as it looks more stock with the rest of the bike retaining the OM swingarm attachment. Also the rearsets line up more flush.

I am not interested in Chinese copies as for me one of the things about having nice rearsets, apart from the adjustability, is the better build quality and smoother action.
CBR Harris sets sell for under £200.

Can anyone get an Autocad/3D model/mill programme - I have an engineer who could turn these out by the bucket load.

I'll ask him how much he needs - measurements etc...

If we get say a CBR spacing on the plate - we have a world of choice...
