SP1 & SP2 Versus the Firestorm? Which comes out on top and what are the major differences? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

You can't ask that question they are a different kettle of fish so to speak one was derived from HRC to go racing and the other was an affordable take on the 90's vtwin boom
One has modern fuel injection the other simple carb set up bloody big ones at that!
One has budget shocks the other plush usd setup, one has a big double seat the other a solo seat with rear push in fit pillion one
Full fairing vs half faired etc etc etc etc etc

You would be better off just asking what is the difference between the Sp1 and SP2 and Google would be great for that lots of info on those models on there about the difference between the two

What I know about SP's could be written on the back of a postage stamp in felt tip pen. A few people have suggested to me I should get an SP but I do a fair bit of long range riding which the storm is ok for (just) but would an SP be too uncomfortable. The small seat of the SP would be unpopular with my other half.
How much more bhp does the fuel injection of the SP give?

20-30 bhp I think

98 GSXR750 with carbs gives about 128HP, later 750 SRAD with fi 135HP. I suppose fuel injecion itself could give about 5-10 more.

It's not just because it's got FI other than being a V Twin its a completely different engine

The 98 was on FI and was around 120bhp figure as standard

sp1 kicks out 133 bhp, they leave the storm for dead, go round twisty like there on rails! mine was ok long distance but did have a gel seat

you mrs will be moaning about the pillion seat being hard as fook, so if you taking her away for a dirty weekend forget knocking her back doors in!

I have both a Firestorm and an SP2, the only thing they have in common is they are both Hondas and are V Twins, other than that they are two very diffrent machines, if you're thinking of carrying a passenger on an SP2 they will not be happy, sometimes i take my son out on mine, he's 12 years old and about 7 stone, he lasts about an hour and a half on that little bench seat before he's had enough, so god knows how an adult would go on.
A lot depends on what you want your bike for, if you want to just go out and have a play, do reasonable distances, a bit of touring etc, have the biggest smile ever because you have the pleasure of owning and riding such a beautiful fantastic machine then go for the SP2.
If you want t to commute or use quite often, do longer distances, plenty of touring, carry passengers etc then stick with the Firestorm.
Make no mistake they are totally different bikes, plus the price of parts is very different too, Firestorm parts are ok price wise and readily available, while SP2 parts are very VERY expensive and rare.
If you're lucky enough to be able to have both then do it.
I love them both but for different reasons

I was sat on bennys SP2 the other day, what a machine that beast of his is, such a looker too and drop dead sexy in the white, sitting on it it just feels so well put together its also a real man's bike

I always used to have the view of the storm as being a bit of a unisex / female's bike in its unmolested half faired form, the SP's couldn't be farther from that

Hope the other half gets a mint job with her degree soon, as i would love an SP2, i think the bank would give me a loan now as my credit rating is V Good but i better not lol

My sp1 had full akra system, k&n's, PC3 with custom map, and rear wheel 127 bhp. Realistically they're 120 bhp at the wheel in standard trim.

ive still got my firestorm thought its worlds apart from a standard one now in terms of handling, speed, braking etc....
just recently sold a mint sp1 with pc3, microns etc... that was dyno'd at 129 by the po but imo was knocking out a bit less, just needed a good service tbh.

the new sp2.... what a fkin awesome bike!

regards touring... ive just got back from a 3000 mile euro trip on mine and it never missed a beat (apart from the bolts in the stand coming loose resulting in a parking drop )

10 - 12hrs a day ion the saddle with no blisters apart from on my toe under the gearchange!
so reliable and versatile, equally at home in town and slow traffic, twisty mountain roads and fast autobahn sessions, predictable handling, great fuel economy (130mile+ between fills and didnt see the fuel light all week!)
compared to a mate's duke 1098 which was managing a paltry 80 miles a tank...

agree with kev on the parts.... i just put Â£260 of tyres on mine, and 180 for a chain n sprox set... expect to pay twice the price for parts over the storm!

with akro cans and pc3 basic map, mine dyno'd at 135 - since then its had new oil, plugs, filters, chain et and i know its a lot more!
when i cba i'll install the accellerator pump mod and a modded map ive made then put it back on the dyno - i reckon without doing much to it i'll see 145 easy....
top speed, 170 with bags to spare, gets there very quick!!!

but in some ways the firestorm is a better bike....
dont ask me why... youd have to own both to understand what i mean.... i miss the aggressive grunt of my storm as its been sorned for 8mth now...
i think it wouldve been a better steed for the euro trip apart from the economy! :beer:

And ive just got back from the tt on mine, fully loaded too. isle of man ,ramsey, back to hull on less than 30 quid !!! Thats about 12 miles in iom, and liverpool to Hull. home and dont even feel like ive been riding a bike at all, let alone 9 days solid lol. mines a firestorm. kept up with most things on the mountain, except John mcguiness pmsl
