Re: Fuel consumption
When pushing it because it's out of fuel.

Re: Fuel consumption
The last one's in kilometers, though.
Actually, all bikes use fuel, and all bikes use fuel at different rates due to the engine, riding style, traffic, journey type, etc, etc etc.
Sometimes fuel just evaporates. Fuel used while sitting at traffic lights or in queues will worsen your consumption figures. Tanks and fuel pipes leak sometimes.
If you have a bike with an accelerator pump, passing children twisting the throttle will use up fuel, even though the engine isn't running.
So really, posting a number isn't much use.
I've achieved all of the numbers above, and many more besides, so what exactly does that mean or prove?
I set my odo every time I fill up, so have a reasonable idea, based on the type of riding I'm doing, how long it'll be until I need more. The low fuel light alerts me if I haven't been concentrating.
And don't assume, by the way, that my "normal riding" is the same as your "normal riding".
It's about as much use as saying I passed three cars today, or two hundred and three.
I like Bourbons.
My hair is brown.
My friend's name is Julie.
Two years ago I passed through Aberystwyth.
Don't mean nuthin', don't prove nuthin.
So what are we meant to do with these numbers?
If your bike did 85 miles since you last filled up and mine did 124, is mine better or worse, should I consult a mechanic or get a new bike? Is yours better? Did we have exactly the same routes and conditions? Is Esso better than BP? How long was the fuel stored before sale? Does it smell different? How much additives is there? has it been cut with Ethanol? If so, to what proportion?
Enough rant now, but I get very fed up reading yet another post asking about fuel consumption or saying what yours did some time in the past in unknown conditions.
Can we start a thread instead swapping last known tyre pressures?
No more interesting, but it might make you check your pressures more often, I suppose.
I need a sit down now.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Fuel consumption
That's exactly what I do and monitor my own mileages to make comparisons too. So trying to improve my own so it's at least what the average is or whatever the manual says.I set my odo every time I fill up, so have a reasonable idea, based on the type of riding I'm doing, how long it'll be until I need more. The low fuel light alerts me if I haven't been concentrating.
And yes you are right it does get a bit boring another thread on it. The OP should have done a search first.

Have Fun.

Re: Fuel consumption
Bloody hell I only asked as its my first v-twin and was a little shocked when my light came on so soon.
I did actually try and find out before I posted the thread but had no luck, so thought I would ask the obvious people that would know, didn't mean to open a can of worms or anything.
I'll think twice about asking advice in the future.

Re: Fuel consumption
APOLOGY:
Sorry.
Not aimed at you at all, G-Pro.
It's (and you can't have known) the third or fourth time we've all gone round this subject, and it just occurred to me that we weren't going to get anywhere, again...
Ask away, didn't mean to jump down your throat, so to speak.
But for me, all I can say on the subject is you fill it up, use it up, put some more in, repeat.
Same as I do with the car, or any other petrol or diesel-powered device I've ever owned.
Putting a number on it doesn't help, and when you do have a number, it doesn't change the fact that when it's empty, you gotta fill it up again.
I also have a habit of not thinking about the price of a pint when I'm in the pub. It is what it is, pay up and sup up.
No point complaining, you just go or stay, buy one or not.
Still, that's my entry for the Rant of the Month competition done

Re: Fuel consumption
I do apologize, I had forgotten who had posted. As Lloydie says we are here to help so no worries mate. Don't be scared off, we are a friendly bunch really, but like a laugh, good banter and a wind up at times. You will get used to itThe OP should have done a search first.

I'm still getting over how much these bike guzzle the juice but in all honest it as Rob said.
And I do seem to ride on the aggressive side.Rob wrote:They aren't that bad, just seems it 'cos the tank is small. Obviously if you go everywhere at full throttle it will guzzle the fuel - same as any bike.
Have Fun.

dont be put off, Tony is normally very helpful, but he is a bit hormanal this week as the build up to a new workshop day adds a lot of stress as its his babyG-Pro29 wrote:Bloody hell I only asked as its my first v-twin and was a little shocked when my light came on so soon.

Streetfighter lol or is it STREETFIGHTER :-)
Re: Fuel consumption
Cheers guys however annoying the post was I found it interesting the difference in consumption that people get according to the way they ride.
One thing I have learnt is to reset my trip and monitor it until I get used to it.

Re: Fuel consumption
I use the trip like a fuel gauge. Every time I fill the tank it gets reset to zero. You get used to monitoring it and it very interesting the difference between sitting in traffic and open roads.
