6mm Spacer

Post by darrenmartin »

Hay guys iv just found on the intersleb a 6mm spacer for the Storm. Its supposed to "jack up the rear end by 22mm which in turn "quickens" the steering of the bike....any of you guys got these or is this guy just trying to sell off what looks like a load of scrap metal? :Eyebrows:

Yes they do work very well, don't buy one make your own possibly from a piece of scrap metal.

Try the search function the dimensions are on here somewhere.

Just use some washers. Does the same thing but cheaper!

As Jester says. Just cut out a slot in the washer so you can fit it by only slackening off the top shock nut. Personally I would use 2mm thick spacers. That way you can try 2mm first and see how the handling feels. You can then work your way up to 4mm then 6mm if you wish.

Do remember though by increasing the rear end ride height you are putting more weight over the front end, and the standard fork springs are on the soft side before you start.

that's the one i got

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CBR1100 ... 273wt_1141

bit more solid than washers and it has a larger flat area between the frame and shock which i prefer over a washer

and for 5 quid i couldn't be arsed pissing about making one, its only a 5iver so no biggie if you don't like it just flog it on or give it away

This ebay seller (above) will sell you 3 x 2mm spacers for £7 delivered if you contact him. Ive ordered them and just waiting for delivery. I also saw a 2009 CBR1000RR side stand (leg only, not the extra gubbins) on ebay so I bought it for £4 today - I have a suspician that it won't fit as on a previous thread from Stefan/Stephen (real nice red storm) he said the one he used was from an earlier model, but for £4 I thought id take the risk!

Ill let you know how I get on!

Bet you kick scuffs onto the pillion seat cover paint for a few days until you get used to the extra height again.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Hey Griff i picked up an X11 stand yesterday with all fittings and the side stand kill switch for £10 :D turns out the X11 is the code for the CB1100 and its stand, coz its 30mm longer puts the Storm back to a more upwright stance. May be worth a look m8 (but still let us know how u get on as "knowledge is power! "
