Post by seb421 »

Any one got one?

two helmet brands that fit my head shape very well are HJC and Arai im a 56cm so Small (55-56) is a very nice snug fit

thinking of getting the Haga rep as ive liked them for ages, there is the rainbow which im not sure on and the Philip island (fire & ice) which i really like

Any one used the RX-7 GP on the road? what's wind noise like?

Seb, before you go buy an Arai RX7, go try on a HJC R-Pha 10. I to fit RX7's but got one of these, fits as well if not better, and £150 delivered to my door. I'll try to find the place I got mine and send you the link. Lovely, light lid, with great ventilation, and spare visor and pinlock insert. The same lid in Ben Spies colours is £400 ish.

There you go !!

Cybercarl uses an RX7 GP, he mentioned it in your post on the Viper GT.

Yep I got one. As far as wind noise goes, they are obviously more noisy than a lid with less ventilation. I have never felt the need for earplugs with it and the GP is a lot less noisy than the standard RX7 which was a common complaint. The reason for it being quieter is because the neck roll has been redesigned so eliminating air from getting under the lid. It also has the rear exhaust vents to aid airflow. The only time I really notice the wind noise is at high speed motorway speeds with all the vents wide open, and with the weather in this country, that's not often.
Arai have also included some little fluorescent tabs on the cheek pads, so they can be pulled out quick release in case of emergency to aid in the removal of lid.
Vision has been improved because the visor has slightly more peripheral vision than standard and I love the little pull down chin spoiler. The little spoiler at the rear between the two main vents does work at higher speeds. It seems to keep the head more stable.
The only downside is the visor removal, this is very Unnerving and you have to be a bit forceful, but it does work. I have only ever removed it when stripping it down and taking all the interior out for washing. It does a good job at de misting, but for it to work most efficiently the pinlock needs to seal the visor closed which I must admit I never do. The mouth vent has two positions, one for airflow in your face and one that flows just behind the viser aiding to de misting. In heavy rain the only leakage I get is a small amount that gets through the brow vents in the visor and maybe a small amount through the mouth vent if directed at face.
All in all, I got to say it's one of the best lids I have ever owned. I would say though, that you should try one first if you can. It may seem noisy at first compared to others but you soon adapt to it. I would not consider it to be too noisy. I would never spend £500 on a lid, but was lucky on eBay and it cost me £280 :biggrin Bargain, as new worn for a month. If I was to get another one I would invest in some Ventureshield to protect from stone chips. After a couple of years I have a few in mine and they show up bad on White. :( The only other thing I would mention is that Arai lids seem to be a bit on the large size so careful with what size you go for. Try one on in a shop first and get the right size for your head.

I don't know how old you are so I'm not sure if you'd be interested in this but it's worth a mention.
You can get an Arai Quantum F, Mick Doohan rep at the moment on offer down from over £500 to £380 from Lidsdirect, and if you go to the Rocket Centre they'll match the price and taylor it for you with the cheek pads all included in the price, I got one the other day, Sorted

Fond memories watching Doohan as a child with my dad, not tried a quantum on I do like the fit of a chaser and viper gt so it shouldn't be far off, I like some of the older Doohan reps and I quite like that Doohan tt one on the rx-7 gp too
