Engine bar

Post by Boon »

Hi
Trying to attempt fitting R&G bungs to my bike but am having probs at the first hurdle,Removing the engine bar, :(
I have undone the nut & locking nut at both ends & put an allen key in to turn it but nothing?.
Could anyone tell me is the bar threaded into the frame or do i just use a trusty whacker to remove the bar once all nuts!! are removed.

kin nightmare mate, the bolt should just slide out once the nut is off. the allen head end is inside a 20mm threaded adaptor that is threaded in the frame, if you try and turn it and that part is seixed then the outlugs (where the flat side of the allen head portion sit) will break off. The long bolt is a common thing that gets seized as is the threaded adaptor in the frame. The engine bolt is going to need twatin out or pressin out but the threaded portion if seized is the nightmare. options are leave it alon if the bolt comes out and just tap the engine out of the frame gently or when the engine is out cut a bolt shaped head on the part that normally buts to the engine and then try taking it out inwards (towards the engine side of the frame) and hope for the best. I had this on one of my vtr's, once the adaptor was out it had taken all the thread out of the frame so I had to buy a 20mm helicoil kit and put a new thread in the frame, was along job.
