Importing to US

Post by Vtrf3v3r »

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone on here knows how many problems I might have importing a 1998 1000f through US customs and border patrol when I look at moving back to the states next year. I don't want to have to put a lot of money into the bike all at once if I don't have to. Thanks.

Taking into account shipping costs, duties & paperwork- you might want to sell your bike here and buy another Stateside - take any mods off, carry them over and fit them on the other side.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

+1 on what wick said, not worth the hassle when the bike has a low value to begin with..... :(

I've got the move covered for free so that is not an issue. What I'm more worried about is if it is comparable with EPA requirements so on and so forth. Plus how much paper work is involved. I looked at cbp.gov and it didn't make much sense.

You might get a better response form the Superhawk forum.
I know that some states (California for example) have tougher regulations than others.
You'll have to get a correctly dipping headlight, but as mine's an import and I haven't bothered about changing it over to a UK dipping headlight I would be willing to swap with you if that helps.

I'm not fussed about it; it's something you get used to, tbh.
Been riding it dipping the wrong way for six years now.....
They've stopped bothering to tell me each MOT.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I thought the US had some stupid rule where if a vehicle wasn't officially sold there then it has to be 25 years old to import it in,

I know its the same bike as the Hawk but as you wasn't sold the Firestorm over their this may cause issues
