bleeding front brakes!

Post by cashy »

This is also in workshop, thought I would cover all options!

I have just got a set of goodridge hoses race set up.

The rear went on great and bled with no problems at all, fitted the front with double banjo straight off the master cylinder and tried various washer options and ways off bleeding it through but with no joy.

To try and find out what was going on we even took the d.banjo off and started pumping the brake lever and only a very little trickle of fluid was coming through and yes there was fluid in the cylinder, we checked the 2" long pipe from the cylinder to the lever for blockages but nothing, it seems as there is a problem with the lever, but are we doing anything wrong, my friend is completely mistified by it 8O, although it was working fine before we started.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Blleding brakes

Oh yes, they are a pig, keep pumping for hours and it doesn't even get hard (ooer)

Had the same probl;em- can be an air lock etc. Some people attach a clean (new) oil can ( the things with the squirty levers) full of new fluid via a piece of tube, to the nipple, and fill from that end.

Otherwiese, it will come right, but takes an age it seems. I found that periodivally loosening the banjo at the lever end helped get rid of any air lock and I wished I bout the union with a nipple at the top.

Hind-sight comment
BEFORE removing the lines. pump all the pistons a fair way out.
Then when you put the new lines on when you push the pistons back in it forces fluid UP the lines (ie the same way as any air bubbles want to go)

Here and now comment

Nip to halfords and shell out £15 on an eezi-bleed kit
Use a couple of G-clamps to secure the resevoir lid, attach the air end to the front tyre and open the bleed valve (make sure you put a tube on it obviously)

Bleeds to VERY firm in seconds

since it works really well for me,

one way is to try taking the calipers off and raising them above the master. bubbles up, fluid down, rock-like brakes!
