Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July
Ok so the list looks like:
Bigveegrin head bearings, rear suspension linkages, fork re oil.
Cybercarl pisstaking and banter and perhaps fork springs if he can be bothered
Lloydiecbr pisstaking, banter and perhaps valve clearance
Geodude pisstaking and banter if he can get a babysitter....just put her in the topbox.
Cliveyandrews and P - bottom!!! (yoke), Head bearings, biscuits and sarcasm
Steve6088 braided hoses
Robs red storm valve clearances
Noblevtr stopper mod and carb balance
Humberty stopper mod And valve clearance
KevL walking from the motorway as I won't allow any of those horrid blue bikes near our fast ones for fear that it's sloth pigmentation is contagious
PlayerOne CCTs and valve clearance - provisional
Dandyhighwayman - find missing power (bring yellow paint)
We will have the shim kit, but those doing valves or CCT mods need to check your inspection caps will come undone.
Those doing bearing make sure you have got a kit which includes the new top and bottom seals.
Carb balance make sure you have the brass adaptor to fit the front cyl, and a t-piece (although we can nip out to the aquatics shop for that and some hose if needed) .
Please add your name to the list if you want to come, and keep me updated if you have to drop out.
Location is B94 6qq, just off the M42 jkt4.
Get here about 9 for bacon butties, there will be no commentarative stickers, but you can have a used and greasy latex glove to take away.

I won't be attending but as it happens I'm quite interested in the greasy glove.

I'll be a provisional yes just to see why my bike isn't making the power it should be. I''ll be finishing nights so I'll try and get away early.
As for anything else, well I'd rather try and find out why my bike doesn't scare me in the way it should.
It's black by the way. Thanks

Bring some orange paint, that'll help you get the power where it should be....DandyHighwayMan wrote:I'll be a provisional yes just to see why my bike isn't making the power it should be. I''ll be finishing nights so I'll try and get away early.

Anyroad - for the day question. Is a) head bearing and b) fork re-oil/spring too much? Given the only place I know where to start is take the fairing off and jack/support the bike, then mull over the Haynes manual.
Also what tools recommended to bring for a) and b)

Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July
It should be do able in a day, will be you doing the work, but with the added help from those of us who have done this before you should have no problems getting it done. As the forks have to come out to do the brgs, it is only an extra 30 mins to do the spring and re oil work, so makes sence to put both jobs together.BigVeeGrin wrote:

Bring the bearings, springs and fork oil (7.5wt...so 1 bottle of 5 and 1 bottle of 10wt). I have the grinder and drifts and hammers.
Anybody who has an ABBA stand can you please bring the VTR adapters as I can borrow another stand from my mate but he only has the ktm fittings.

I have the VTR fittings for the Abba stand and can bring them along if required. Just remind me as my advancing years have led to a touch of senility. I found myself thinking Yellow,Red & Black looked allright on Storms the other day, just goes to show how cruel the ageing process can be!!!

I have a set of ABBA adapters I can bring just in case. Mainly want to do flywheel and advancer. We'll bring P's bottom(yoke!) and if it looks like there is time to do it, we'll swap that - assuming you have the means to hold the front up.
Now:
What sort of biscuits to bring?
Jaffas?
Iced Fancies (orange)
Orange Cremes
Orange Clubs
Tango to wash it down with....

If you want to do the flywheel and the advancer, you will need to bring gaskets for both clutch and generator side, and a puller or bolt to remove the old flywheel (or arrange for somebody to bring Tony's one up).
We will have to drop the coolant to get the advancer in, but we can reuse what comes out and nip to halfords if I dot have enough spare.
For a yoke change, are you planning on also fitting new bearings? Or are you happy that the raceway already fitted to the replacement yoke is in good nick, and is the same type as the ones on the bike? Wouldn't want to find out one was a taper and one was std when we get it apart!

Only custard creams allowed, none of that orange rubbish

Some links regarding the Cam Chain Tensioners (CCT's)
You can either go for the stop mod View Topic http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=19416 Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves crashing.
Or
You go for the full manual conversion, your options are here http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 16&t=22720
I will bring my carbtune for a carbsync but for anyone wanting to sync carbs they need the IIRC 5mm adapter, t-piece and some vacuum hose http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 30#p148551
The carbtune site is very good and a fast efficient service. I'd recommend them to anyone.
I'm willing to help remove carbs if needs be to attach adapter to front cylinder., though I managed to do mine (at a squeeze) with my magical hands and and an angle screwdriver.

Any particular bearings recommended to order, or straight swap with Honda ones?AMCQ46 wrote:
