Tail Tidy

Post by Boubepo »

Hopefully my Firestorm should be delivered next week

In preparation I'm considering ordering a tail tidy, I've noticed on ebay the tail tidy on offer mentions cutting and fitting.

Has anyone fitted one of these? I fitted a tail tidy to my Speed Triple and it was a straight forward bolt on exchange.

How much cutting and butchering are we talking about on the VTR?

quite a bit from the corners and a little bit further down too i think, if your handy with a hack saw then all is well.

if this had been asked other day i could have shown you pictures as the bike was in bits, doh.

sure some one will have pics

This is the unit I was thinking of fitting http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TAIL-TIDY-sta ... 888wt_1413

The plan is to fit a smaller number plate 7 x 5.5 [should get away with it where I live] but I'm a little concerned about cutting and butchering the rear of the bike.

With my Speed Triple it was a straight bolt off, bolt on affair, so easy to return to the original spec for the MOT and for selling purposes

I've fitted one like this, but also fitted a carbon fibre undertray.
The extra weight of one is offset by the saving on the other.

Looks ok, and remember that you can leave a standard plate on and angle it right up- from behind it looks letterbox shaped, and doesn't act as a large sail.

The undertray replacement means that you can remove the standard undertray completely, and still have it as a spare if you don't like the change. But I chose to leave mine in place and butcher it right back, so that I could use it to secure the carbon skin.
However the design of the carbon undertray is to replace the standard one, and it leaves more room under the seat for storage, too.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks Tony.mon, it's hard to visualise how much I need to cut away until the bike arrives and I can see what's in front of me, when you mention an undertray was it anything like this? http://www.mototeckinnovation.com/produ ... =96&page=1

Yes,that's the thing, but I managed to locate a secondhand one in genuine CF.
Not seen new CF ones for quite a while now, though.
But there are a couple of sellers internationally offering glass fibre and plastic ones.
