Vin Numbers...

Post by Beast »

Hi All,

Is there anywhere i can find out what vin numbers correspond to year of manufacture, colour codes etc?

Seems i have a late registered 98 model on a 99 plate.
1998 VTR1000FW on a T Reg.

Hope someone can help, thanks.

If I remember rightly, the Haynes book of lies tells that story in the first few colourdey pages.
I have been known to be wrong on occasion, not often, but on occasion!

Nope you're quite right RQ.
That BBird of yours hasn't blow away your last brain call yet
Also there might still be a sticker on the frame under the seat
with something on it like VTR1000 FX (if it's a 99 model)

The W Or the X (in my case) is the year and colour coding the bike shop wants to Know if you are after parts or paint Beast...Whats up?

VIN numbers will tell you stuff like which company made the bike, which factory it was built in, which engine is in it and which model bike it is. The last five or six numbers are just the sequential number and are unique to each bike.
As Pete says, the model designation and pait code should be on a white sticker with a barcode somewhere on the subframe under the seat.
