Bigger tank

Just a quick question. I was wondering if it is possible to put a larger gas tank onto a 98 storm. Would it be possible to put an original 00 tank onto my 98 or is there an aftermarket company that makes one. And then also cosmetically does it look right. Thanks in advance for any input.

There's no problem fitting the later model 19l tank but there is a problem finding one. The only aftermarket tank made for the storm that I know off is Harris, but yet again finding one is pretty much impossible and it would be bloody expensive. Some people have fitted a VFR 800 tank which IIRC is 21l but they look a bit big and ugly and take a bit more work to fit.

I think they look okay the big 21ltr tank if you can do some sheet metal work and blend it in to the main beam make it look like it sits flush all the way down it would look a lot better

Although I have yet to throw my leg over my VTR - I'm in Spain and my bike is in the UK [long story]

I have looked at the bigger tank options and I'm convinced with the amount of VTR's worldwide, any savvy company, who could knock out a good priced 19 - 21L tank at a reasonable price, would make an absolute killing, not just in the UK but worldwide.

Unfortunately, a reasonably priced option doesn't exist it seems, I've looked at VFR adaptions but not sure about them

So, for me it's a case of just embracing the Storm for what it is.

I have a Harley friend, who was telling me his Harley 48 has a tank capacity of only 8L!!!! that's ridiculously small if he has it right but he was telling me about a 2L emergency container he keeps with the bike, unfortunately we were both drinking strong beer at the time, so I didn't ask him more about this but if a proper emergency 2L container exists - could it be an option?

That's a VFR tank with Mario Nava Fairings, i think it looks the biz!!

+1 seb, from some angles the vfr tank looks great but from others its a bit bulky/ungainly......just my opinion tho

I think paint work makes a big dereference to the look as well, with the candy's they pop and you can see all the angles and curves on a bike painted in a candy type paint

There is such a thing as extra fuel storage areas/reserve tank. There's a company that makes containers that fit in places like the side of rear fairing. But for an extra 2l is it worth it. If one is doing distance where there may be concern that there is not enough fuel stops. Out in the middle of nowhere in Oz maybe then one might as well strap a container on the back.

From what my Harley friend was saying, it sounded like a big hip flask type container but purposely for petrol, you keep under the seat or wherever you can store it on the bike.

Admittedly 2L wouldn't get you far but the chances are, if you ever ran out of petrol, the extra 12 - 15 miles would get you to the next petrol station.

Steve6088 has just added a good thread - "Storm Abroad" about his experiences travelling through Europe, I reckon this type of container would have got him out of trouble a few times

As you know Carl, my Storm isn't with me yet - but I do quite a few solo runs in the Spanish mountains and I have to admit, on a VTR the thought of running out of fuel, would probably be rattling around in the back of my head, 30 mins after the last fill up, especially in remote areas.

if your in the spanish hills just make sure you run out of fuel at the top of the hill....
if i was touring i would consider some sort of emergency fuel tank, maybe wrapped up in a pannier, you'd have to weigh up the added risk if you were in a accident tho

I'm seriously givning the VFR Tank option a lot of thought, is there a specific year/s that fit and has anyone on here done it?.
